Safely ensconced in our hotel room. Wine, cheese, fruit, crackers and little miniature apple raisin danishes from Whole Foods, the Stanley Cup final on tv, and the companionship of travellingone what more could a fangrrrl ask for? ;-)

Dinner was had an the Adis Abbaba restuarant which is Ethiopian and a favourite of our gracious hostess meri_oddities. This of course ( Read more... )

Stealth Australians. We will take over the world... one brewery/vineyard at a time.

And fie on meri oddities for breaking the tradition of faux Australian. *g* Although Ethiopian sounds like fun. They have some fascinating bread recipes.

Two tvs *and* good reception ... imagine the havoc I could wreak. *g*

Huh. Texture's a tricky thing. It's often hard to get past the 'this is meant to be bread?' part of the brain. And then there's always some textures that just don't appeal.

What did you have? Because there's the 'just like all the other loaves' style bread, and the 'lets thicken that porridge until the spoon stands up and then bake it' style bread which frankly scares me. But teff flour sounds really neat nonetheless. Speaking as someone wheat intolerant, of course...

I wasn't to thrilled with the texture myself but was managing since there wasn't much else to eat of the substantial nature. But then every time R would comment or poke at the bread on her side of the platter it had an impact on my ability to get more of it down.

It really was the most bizarre texture. Almost like eating sour dough sponge without incorporating it into a bread dough and baking it. *g*

Ah the porridge style one (yes, I know, not really... but I'm not a huge fan of porridge, so the analogy works for me). Yes, that one made me think I was reading the recipe wrong. And when I figured out I wasn't... I wasn't game to try it. I think, like a lot of things, it's an acquired taste.

So... I'm guessing the dinner was not as entirely successful as it could have been? At least on the food front.

Humans are social creatures, and on some level we like to 'conform' with those around us. That includes reassessing foods in the light of the attitudes around us. So, basically, any problems you had eating the bread are all R's fault. *g*

Yes, and the more it creeped you out the more it creeped me out. *g*

Creep out by association. Who'd a thunk it? ;-)

Now it's book covers filled with kangaroos, more and different wine bottles and Australians winning the US Open. I'm starting to get paranoid. ;-)

Paranoia is fun stuff.
