The new Avengers movie opened here last week, but I've been holding off, partly to avoid the crush and partly because this week's episode of S.H.I.E.L.D. will lead into the movie. Which of course makes me wonder how it will all tie together.

So, after seeing the episode, I was a little sad that they didn't reveal what Gonzales has on the ship, although Coulson did suggest that it was a pretty big secret. Still, the two S.H.I.E.L.D. groups did band together to raid the HYDRA base. On the surface, it was to rescue Deathlok and Lincoln. Underneath that though, both leaders have ulterior motives, Gonzales to get his hands on a few powered people, Coulson to find out the location of Loki's septer (which makes sense, since it's a powerful artifact that has been missing since S.H.I.E.L.D. fell).
Coulson then passes the info on the septer and Strucker's location to Hill, who presumably passes it to the Avengers, leading into the movie. Coulson also mentions Theta protocol in almost the same breath, making it unclear if it refers to the Avengers or something else. Although I think it might be something like an Avengers academy, seeing that one of the Avengers location shoots was at a university in England, with students as extras running around as though training and some of the Avengers actually onsite. If it's true, will the academy fall under the auspices of the Avengers or S.H.I.E.L.D.?
Also, could this tie into Civil War and the superhuman registration act? I remember S.H.I.E.L.D. being mentioned in the casting call for the movie. Would it have been built up by then, or is it a stand-in for some other oversight organization?
