[The journal clicks into gear, recording the quiet tap-tap-tap of Buffy's fingernails against its spine. She has been sitting near her bedroom window for the majority of the day. Last year neither of the lakes froze naturally that I can remember, but given the cold if you find someone who got some ability to freeze things normally I bet you could get it freeze for a few hours at a time or something. Or collect a bunch of people with a pact with Sona.

Sona? That's...one of the spirity things--right?

[She sounds mildly distracted as she asks. The thought of getting a few folks with ice mojo together sounds pretty appealing, even for this sworn enemy of snow.]

[Voice]

Yeah, s'water one. Never talked with her, personally.

[He'd even arrange it with the right pushing. Ice skating party, maybe a hockey game? Hell yeah]

And the theory is that maybe if we could gather some of these pact people we could manufacture ourselves an ice-rink?

[And so this may be some kind of an attempt to locate the right kind of pushing. After all, Buffy's paid enough attention to realize that Haruki seems to be the go-to guy for most things fun and social.

So why not give a little nudge:] Do you skate, Haruki?

Yeah, I mean if she can change water she can freeze it right?

[That said though... he pauses before-] I've skated before.

Me, too. Actually? It was sort of a childhood thing. I was lucky enough to find my old skates in the shop and now I've got the Dorothy Hamill bug.

[Voice]

I went to a rink a few times in middle school, but that's pretty much it, I guess. [...Who the hell is Dorothy Hamill? Now he needs to think]

[Here comes the excitement.] All the more reason to jerry-rig ourselves a skating rink, so you can change that few times into a few more.

That does sound like a valid idea! After all, there are certain things you need to do in winter! You need a snowball fight, you need to kiss someone on New Years, you need to go on a date on Christmas, in Luceti you need to have an awkward Valentiens day because only a quarter of the girls remember the chocolate they're supposed to make... And... and-

[Voice]

That's it! You're American, right?! Hockey! That's it, hockey!

[Whoa, slow down kid. There's a few noises of confusion and half-interruptions especially around the area of Christmas date and with a mild frown she simply ends up with:] Hockey? I think you're a little bit in the wrong country with that. Besides, hockey's all grunting and violence and unflattering padding. Figure skating is a little more what I'm talking about. Y'know, graceful stuff.

Hockey can be plenty graceful! [...DUN DUN DUN-]

Figure skating all in well, but it's got a limited amount of capability to it! Hockey's a real sport, and you're American so you'd know about it. Obviously, it would be a superior thing to see on a proper ice rink. And then maybe some normal skating exhibitions between that.

[Well, if hockey was the way to get what she wanted?]

I guess I know a bit about hockey. This and that. I know there's a whole thing with a rubber puck and way too much blood but--[scrabbling!]--I'll bet it's probably right up the alley of some of the other villagers.

[Voice]

Precisely, half the people here are so muscle-brained that if they were to get a head-injury there would be only blood in there without any brain matter.

[Nod. And then he's starting to get into this-] I bet there's a rulebook... I can make something of this.

[Voice]

[slaying]

[While vaguely taken aback by the sudden vitriol for the kicko-fighto types, Buffy knows a good lead when she spots one.]

Oh! And we'll need skates. I've found mine but one pair a skates won't do us much good.

[Voice]

I'm sure there's plenty of them to be found in that bazaar.
