021 [action & accidental voice]

[Terrible dreams drive the Slayer out of her bed. Out of her house. This afternoon, it's only a deep nap that is disturbed; however, the last few days of Buffy's recovery have seen her often wake with a start. Nightmarish images of robots and holding cells have set her on edge. Just my imagination, she insists. Or more likely, me being paranoia- ( Read more... )

[She's approaching a bit quickly, the night still having her on edge thanks to Drusilla. She's slowing down when she reaches the bridge though, offering a smile.]

Howdy, Buffy.

Fred! [Buffy smiles, pocketing the locket and turning to the girl with one of those slightly-too-cheery smiles.] What brings you out here on a dark September night?

I dunno. I guess after I saw you wander out here, I figured it'd be safe enough for me to come out too.

What? Is that a subtle vote of confidence I hear? [Alright, she warms up.] Besides the odd bumped-face-in-the-night, they're not so bad. Sort of quite. Maybe even with a dash of serene thrown in.

It for sure is. [A brighter grin now.] But... I dunno. I guess I still don't like nights too much.

Drusilla certainly did a number on you two. [Crossing her arms, now.] You'd think, with ten years of slaytastic experience, I'd be able to find one absolutely lost-her-marbles insane vamp and get all stakey with it--but that's proving to be not such an easy task.

I don't think Angel would let you, anyway.

[Oh, that gets a big eyebrow-raise from Buffy.] Angel might have been head-honcho in L.A., but I'm not really in a position to worry about what Angel will or won't let me do. I'm a vampire slayer. Ergo, I slay vampires. And considering Drusilla's one of those? Well, it'd just be me doing my job. Can't fault a girl for that.

Golly, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you. I just mean...

[She pauses for a second.] He either wants to fix her or get her himself. Since she's his fault and all.

[She softens, shaking her head.] Sorry, Fred. Just...sort of a bone of the highest contentions. I'm not really one for the being ordered around. I'd say just ask the Watcher's Council, but I guess it's a little late for that.

[Buffy wipes a hand across her face.] I'm worried that this reason is exactly why he won't be able to get her himself. He's got the guilties all through him. He doesn't mean to be soft...but...he's killed her once. I'm not sure he can kill her again.

[A nod. She's learning from you, Buffy, how not to worship Angel.] I don't think he wants you in danger, though, either.

[In spite of it all, she smiles. Yeah, that'd be Angel.] No one really has to worry, you know. I've been doing the whole danger-thing for a long time. Angel wasn't even anywhere around for most of that time, and I turned out okay. Sure, maybe there was that inconvenient being dead thing, but it turned out...okay. [Alright, so not sure on that last part.]

Still. I always thought he and Cordy were kye-rumption, but then I met you, and... Now I'm all confused.

Kye-what-now? [Our Buff here isn't too hot with the demon languages.]

Kye-rumption. It's when two warriors meet on the battlefield and recognize their mutual fate.

Okay, but that recognized mutual fate is that we can pretty much only be non-mutual. You do know that, right? It's sort of a thing that people get to know about Angel really fast, these days.
