[Jenova is in the process of passing by when she notices Buffy playing with pieces of wood. She comes closer to investigate, dressed in a hood and cloak.]

What is it that you do?

[Looking up from a half-finished cross, she eyes the cloaked figure. Huh. Better play the vague card.]

What I do? What do you mean--right now or just in general?

[She cocks her head. Suspicious. They were always suspicious. But was that worse than going about without the cloak? Unlikely. She gestures at the pieces of wood littering the ground around the girl; her hand is blue.]

Right now.

[She wrinkles her nose at the blue hand, but doesn't go into question mode. Not yet.]

Right now, I'm remembering how I did not take shop class in high school. I'm trying to make something out of wood, but it's not working too well.

Hmmnn...

[Jenova leans over to pick up one of the finished crosses, looking at it quizzically, turning it this way and that. They remind her of something, on a planet long ago where the people were proud-willful-arrogant, where there were machines that flew through the air, and children built things, models, to mimic them.]

Does this... do anything?

Sometimes. Depends on who the doing's for.

[She watches the other individual pick up one of her crosses, warily. She has a pout on her face that says hey, be careful--that one took a whole hour.]

[And she heard that, m'dear. So she looks back down at it incredulously. Time runs strange for her, but she knows well how it works for others. Perplexed face ensues.]

...A whole hour?

Yeah, I never was very talented with a--[wait that wasn't said out loud oh god]--hmm.

[Buffy frowns, tossing aside her work to pay more attention.]

[The eyes glow, a bright purple. Buffy reminds her of what others have done, what retribution she has yet to wreak.]

Oh wait, is this a chess metaphor? Because I have so had it with chess metaphors. Talk about over-done. Why are there never any good backgammon ones, instead? Y'know, besides the fact that no one actually ever knows the rules to backgammon.

[Well now, you get the same treatment. Jenova has to pause to try and figure out just what backgammon is. Then she has to laugh.]

I have never been to your world, have never tasted its customs, drunk its thoughts. I do not know backgammon. But a game of war across a board is near universal and I have seen-known-learned many of those.

[Talk about your walking thesaurus--Buffy remains skeptical.]

Well, I guess that makes your world pretty lucky if it gets to skip out on the whole backgammon phenomenon. Believe me, you're not missing much.

There are many planets in my world... I have yet to have seen them all.

[a gesture at all the crosses again]

So these are weapons? You are a warrior?

Weapons? Ehh, sort of. More like deterrents. Big fat 'no entry' signs. But warrior is one word you could use for me.
