[Jacketed and scarfed, Buffy is hard at work on the lawn of House Seven. She has in her hands a most fierce and gruesome weapon--long and pronged, wickedly effective for roping in and dealing with rogue...leaves. Yes, today Buffy is devoting her time to raking the leaves on the lawn (a task she takes even into the early but dark evening). And while ( Read more... )

[April is heading back to her house carrying an armload of what looks like broken electronics when she passes by the yardworkstravaganza.]

Hey, Buffy.

[Far too faux-happy for her own good.]

April!...Hi. You look--wow, you look kinda...full.

Yeah, I've got a receiver to build. Derek's making a laboratory for us in the basement of the house, but for now I'm just going to lug this crap back to my room. It's getting kind of cluttered in there.

Doing some fall cleaning? [Eyeing the leaves in the yard. Wondering if maybe she should go home and do the same instead of messing with old spare parts.]

Something like that. It's a lengthy job, but someone's gotta do it.

[She pauses--leaning on the rake.] A lab, though? Heavy stuff.

I like to tinker. Keeps me sane, and on my toes. My first project's the receiver, but then I was thinking of making some small robots.

You don't look like you're enjoying it much. When we were kids, we'd jump in the piles.

[With no small ounce of horror, Buffy eyes the piles of leaves and...God, she hopes no one jumps in them.]

W-well, what's the receiver for, anyway?

[April continues, blissfully unaware.]

Yeah, jumping in them. And leaf fights. You can't rake leaves without leaf fights.

OH uh...well, it's nothing. A little experiment.

[Suppressing a shudder, re: leaf fights.]

To, what? Build a radio?

[A doubtful tone of voice. Not sure she really wants to tell too many people about her plans, considering Donatello is so against them.]

Well, a device capable of receiving radio waves and other waves, too. I'm...going to hike out to the barrier soon. I want to run some tests. Nothing super complicated.

Uhura was trying to build something like that, I think. She--she used to live here.

Huh. Did she leave any stuff behind? I mean, not like I'm trying to raid her stuff, but the items shop was a little short on supplies.

I'd be happy to grab a rake, you know, if you want to shorten the fun yard time.

Maybe--I mean, if she did? I'd have to ask Bones. I think all the project fell to him after they left.

[Then, dubiously:] Promise not to jump in the piles?

I think I can handle not jumping into leaves right now. [She notices the rake leaning off to the side and heads over to get it.] Bones is a weird name.

Mmhm--and Bones is also a weird man. [A smirk.] I mean...that's more like a nickname than a real name.

Riiiight, nickname. Well, it's hard to tell around here. [She sets to work on a pile of leaves, trying to join it to a larger pile.] There's so many people from far-flung places. I guess I shouldn't be throwing "weird" at too many people, considering my best friends are turtles.

The...turtles took a little getting used to, yeah.
