[It's another evening shift at Good Spirits. Buffy seems to be spending a lot of her time at the bar, soaking up the gossip and avoiding boredom. She is developing a habit of patrolling afterwards, before she heads home. It feels nice for the days to regain some form of structure. Less lazy ( Read more... )

[Oh, hey, it was that girl who woke her up from the bench last week. Fenimore had been a bit ruder than usual, hadn't she? She probably should apologise for some of it, at least. Explain that she had been on edge and wouldn't normally have argued about...well, about some of those points.

But clearly the better option is to pretend none of that ever happened. Taking responsibility? Whatever do you mean?] If there is, it's just started. This is the first I've heard of anything.

[Buffy recognizes that voice. It's hard to forget one that you've argued with.]

Exactly. Hearing things. That's what's happening.

Hearing things? That sounds...pretty tame.

Sure, so it's not impending danger or an apocalypse--but it's damn creepy.

You're going to have to be a bit more specific before I start thinking that.

It's mostly like a hallucination, except real. Well, not really real. But it's of real things.

[Yeah, please do yell at her for not making much sense.]

...Which is it? Is it real or is it not?

[Never fear, there's an annoyed tone in her voice that pretty much guarantees she'll yell if Buffy doesn't make sense soon.]

[Initiating yelling.] What does? You're hearing things and seeing it. Did I walk into the middle of a conversation or are you planning on letting me in on the secret sometime?

The hallucination, duh. That's the it and the stuff in the hallucination are the things. Y'know, like the drum-beats and the staircase and the pool tables which shouldn't be there but--sometimes--are.

[Big time sigh.]

No, I don't know! I'm not the one hallucinating.

Maybe it's just the bar, then.

The bar? [So, there hadn't been a bar in her village, per say. But there probably had been a place that acted much the same and she's found out the basics of the one here, so:] ...That explains a lot.

Wait, no. I'm not drunk. [She leaps to conclusions.] I don't drink. I just work here.

[Well, Fenimore had leapt in the same direction.] Not even a little? It would be the most likely cause.
