Killing sprees, huh? That's so last season.

[Buffy sighs, and the journal picks up the gentle clinking of glasses.] Well, I'm a bit more used to--y'know--beating up bartenders for info but now that I am one? Hmm. If anyone's got some juicy knowledge on the murders, swing by Good Spirits and give a girl a hand with her investigating, okay?

investigating is my thing, public service announcement, she trolls bones because she likes him, beer bad, maybe this was a bad idea, don't touch that dartboard

[Oh, she knows that laugh. So she can assume what it's motive is.]

I know, right? But it's perfect. You should really come try it.

[Sure enough, only a few minutes later Uhura is making her way to the bar.]

All right, so what's in this McCoy, anyway?

[You get a wave, Uhura.] Oh, just some lemon soda and a squirt of lime and--[here, she smirks]--something that kinda looks and tastes like Southern Comfort.

[She's not even sure they have that drink in the future but damn it, it's funny to her.]

Naturally. [Pfft, of course they have Southern Comfort in the future, Buffy. The world would be a lesser place without it!]

That sounds even better than a Cardassian Sunrise. I'd better try it.

[It only takes a few moments and some complicated looking rituals--Buffy has taken to measuring the alcohol painstakingly from the bottle's cap--but she produces a fine, tall glass and sets it contentedly before Uhura.]

Jim'd be proud, I think.

Hell, I'm proud. We'll turn you into a barfly yet.

[She doesn't even flinch at the drink. Actually, it's quite good, and Uhura is a very accomplished drinker.]

Not bad.

[With her efforts rewarded, she grins.]

Thanks. Bones wasn't exactly impressed, but I think that was more about the name than the drink itself.

Bones isn't impressed by anything. He asks for it, really. Besides, it's the way of the universe. If Doctor McCoy is ever happy about something, you'll know the apocalypse is nigh.

[She swirls the drink around in the glass contemplatively.]

Earthquakes, weird cults, plagues. I've seen these kinda omens all too often and they've been way more frequent than seeing Bones smile. Which means that my home is either really freaky, or Bones genuinely wins the Grump of the Year award.

In your case, I'd say it's probably a bit of both. [She smiles into her drink.]

Probably.

[She shrugs, leaning forward on the bar. She sets her chin on her palm.]

[That smile turns reassuring.]

It's all varying levels of weird, if you ask me.

Yeah. And the weird just keeps getting weirder.

Honestly, the weirdest things are the ones that seem familiar, if that makes any sense.

Like this bar. [She gestures around the room.] This looks a lot like some of the bars I hung out at in San Francisco.

Yep. Familiar things definitely up the weird factor. [Deep, long-suffering sigh.]
