[It was a pretty average day. Still not strong--but feeling better--Buffy bustles around the house. In fact, she's made some soup for Kirk. After all, it was the tried and tested remedy for all ailments. And...after the state he was returned in. Well ( Read more... )

That might actually be an offer I'll take you up on. Got anything that isn't an icky-face-inducer?

I'm positive I can come up with something for you.

We also have a dartboard, if you're interested. The Captain requested it.

[Oh. Oh, God. That was...affective. There's a quietly stifled sniffle.]

Really? He did?

He did. A long while ago, close to when he first arrived I think.

It's yours, if you'd like it.

He would've wanted it to stay up there. Y'know, spread the fun.

[She groans.] My God, listen to me. I'm talking about him like he's dead. Which? He's not. He's just...home. That's all. I mean it's not like he--[she cuts off, changes direction.]

Yeah. That's it. I'm coming for a drink. I'll see you there.

I'll have a booth ready for you. [And he does, just in case she wants the privacy.]

[Upon arrival, she signals minutely to Guy. Her knit hat clamped down upon her head, it looks as though she has taken pains to disguise her grief. The booth, visibly made up, is something she bee-lines for.]

[Guy makes his way over once she settles herself; he's already prepared a drink for her, a sort of cream and alcohol mix that's sweet enough to make the burn bearable.] For you, miss.

Thanks, Guy. [She smiles a very small smile and takes the drink with both hands.] You know how to treat a patron.

[She lifts the drink to her lips and tests it out. It was a great distraction from trying not to pick out the dart board too quickly.

Afterwards, she nods.] Now, that's drinkable.

I'll take that as a compliment.

Can I get you anything else?

How about a little company, if the rest of your customers don't have you all taken up?

I'd be happy to. [Guy smiles and slides into the booth with her.] How're you holding up?

I kinda feel like--[she finds courage in the drink and forges onward]--like I'm stretched inside out and all the hurty bits of myself are being bumped into. Like, when I see places where his things should have been in the house. Or..or the dartboard. They all smack right into new parts of me that I didn't know could hurt, before.

[That was a lot more honesty than Guy was expecting, and he brings a hand up to rub his mouth.] ...mm, that sounds about right.

[Telling Bones just gets her a yelling. And Angel's gone. And Spock's kind of useless in matters of the heart. But a barkeep? Oh, barkeep. The traditional recipient of sob-stories.

Buffy exhales and takes another fair-sized gulp.] Great. At least my heart ache can manage to be normal.
