[The Slayer comes to the journals with an incredibly officious expression. Time to get her meddle on, because being confined to a bedroom could only be so much fun. And that so much took a huge hit when her Captain was so rudely yanked from the house ( Read more... )

There was a young witch named Sypha Belnades. She grew up amongst a group of witches in Wallachia. However, the vampire, Carmilla spread fear and paranoia amongst the common people, and witch hunts spread throughout Wallachia. Sypha's fellow witches were all killed, and she was forced to seek refuge with the church. She contacted the spirits of her kin, and was given mastery over fire, ice and lightening and became a vampire hunter. However, because she was a woman who used magic, she was not well-respected within the church, and began disguising herself as a man.

Years later, when Dracula rose to power she traveled to his castle to destroy him. However, on the way to his castle she was captured by a cyclops and turned to stone. She remained in that form until the cyclops was defeated by Trevor Belmont and Grant DaNasty. When she was restored, she joined Trevor and Grant as they traveled to Castlevania. They faced faced a number of other challenges along the way, and were joined by Dracula's son, a half-vampire named Alucard. Sypha found herself developing emotions for Trevor, but she kept up her disguise. Some say that Trevor realized that she was a woman, and began to develop feelings for her as well, but the records aren't clear. What is known is that after Dracula was defeated Sypha lowered the hood of her cloak and pronounced her love for Trevor. The two were soon married, and they had two children. One who inherited the whip to carry on the Belmont legacy, and one who inherited Sypha's magic and the name Belnades.

Simon. [She sounds glad to hear from him, pausing attentively to listen. There's a quiet (but happy) sigh come the end of the tale.] See, that? That's got hope written all over it. Work-place romances in our biz don't seem too far-fetched, then. When I began my training, it was a big no-no to get to pursue-y with a social life.

But--Belmont? Does that mean these are your ancestors or something?

Yes, I am descended from Trevor and Sypha. Trevor was the first Belmont to battle Dracula.

Thank you. Unfortunately, few in my world feel the same way about us.

Since my family battles creatures of darkness, many people associate us with those creatures, and believe that we are cursed. After I defeated Dracula, I returned to the town nearest his castle to rest. As I was leaving, an old man approached me, thanked me for defeating the dark lord, then told me never to return to his village.

Jeez. Thankless, much? They should have thrown you a parade. Or, at least name a library after you.

That may be. But I don't hunt vampires for glory or recognition.

It's a duty, right? And destiny. Strong-armed volunteer work.

Exactly.

[He pauses.]

But I would not object to holding a parade.

It's mostly a secret identity gig. Parades would give it away.

There are merits to keeping your identity secret, though.

You mean the part where people constantly underestimate me because I look like a little weakling? I think that's pretty much a worn out routine.
