Ooh, I'll have to look this up. My husband Christopher wrote am awesome scary story (and send up of scary stories) called The League of Last Girls. I keep trying to get him to turn it into a YA.

Have you read Men, Women, and Chain Saws by Carol Clover? It is very a very dense and academic study (and thus I have only really skimmed it) of viewer identification in horror films. She talks a lot about the Final Girl theory. Like I said, I haven't read it through, but the bits that I have read a really good.

I've never made it through a horror flick (or book - Flowers in the Attic in junior high was about the last time I tried), but this theory is fascinating -- definitely a great discussion, and I'm kind of freaked-out-ishly interested in reading ... (gasp!) the book...
