GUIDELINES TO WRITING TWILIGHT CROSSOVER FANFICTION
Seriously, people. I want to have faith in you. I want to believe that there are some half decent writers who have common sense and are more than capable of writing decent crossover fictions without your superior Bella love getting in the way. I know there has to be at least one of you out there.
For those of you who DON'T know. There are some basic rules to writing crossover fan fiction without reading as completely dumb.
-VAMPIRE DIARIES / TRUE BLOOD
1. BELLA CAN'T BE AN ORIGINAL, OR A DIFFERENT KIND OF VAMPIRE IN GENERAL.
you want to know why? I'm assuming, if you are writing Twilight fiction that you have read the books. Am I right? Well, if you have read the books, than you would know that if Bella was an original, she wouldn't have a heartbeat, and if you've read the books, you would know that Edward mentions on at least one occasion that he can HEAR HER HEARTBEAT.
i'm not a hater, but you have to have common sense.
2. What's the point of starting a romance with Eric Northman or one of the Salvatores if she's just going to run back to Edward in the end. That wouldn't even be a problem if people didn't make it seem like it was a choice made by the Cullens instead of her.
3. Be daring. The whole point of a crossover is to put a character into another situation and essentially create a reaction to it. It's character therapy.
PERCY JACKSON.
1. SHE CAN'T BE THE OFFSPRING OF THREE GODS. (GODS...YOU HEAR ME?)
2. SHE CAN'T BE THE DAUGHTER OF ARTEMIS.
Artemis has been forever and she's not going to suddenly give up her virginity to Charlie Swan.
3. SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THE DAUGHTER OF A BIG 3!!!
seriously. you act like Bella is the be all end all of fictional female characters, or something. She's actually quite bland. I'd say daughter of Hypnos, at best.
4. IF YOU ARE GOING TO THROW THE CULLENS INTO THE MIX, DON'T MAKE EDWARD A 'MY BELLA, I MUST WIN HER BACK FROM PERCY' DOUCHEWARD.
seriously. this is a big one. Try to keep the characters in character. I will personally come find you and hit you.
5. NO, THERE IS NO WAY THAT ALL THE CULLENS WOULD BE OFFSPRING OF GODS. DON'T BE STUPID.
if Bella wound up being the daughter of Neptune, that makes her unique and strong in comparison. Don't take it away.
IN GENERAL
1. THERE'S A REASON FOR EVERYTHING.
remember that. it only makes sense if you make it. don't randomly make something happen just because you want it to. Create a reason around it. Hell, create a story line around. Just don't through shit into the pot just because it sounds cool.
2. MAKE THE MAIN TWILIGHT CHARACTER GROW.
don't make Bella the same as she always is.
3. DON'T IMPROVE THE CHARACTER, EITHER.
if Bella is clumsy, don't take it away from her. It's part of who she is. (for example, if she were the daughter of one of the Greek gods (PJO), If it's Aphrodite or Athena, or Apollo, having her being clumsy would give character.
4. DON'T MAKE ANY CHARACTER A COLD HEARTED BITCH, UNLESS IT'S ROSALIE.
