slayful_buffy Background: Shallow and popular, Buffy Anne Summers is first introduced to the world of the supernatural when she's 16 years old by her first watcher, Merrick, who tells her that she's a vampire slayer, the 'one girl in all the world to fight the forces of darkness'.
Initially, Buffy reacts like any other teenager - she refutes her calling, ignores Merrick's repeated warnings until certain events force Buffy's hand and she has no choice but to accept what she is. Buffy trains for months, gearing up to fight an older vampire who crashes her Prom, kills her Watcher and some of her classmates and Buffy is left with no choice but to burn down her school gym to kill the vampires inside. This culminates in Buffy getting kicked out of school and her parents splitting up.
Buffy and her Mother move to Sunnydale where - Buffy hopes, at least - she can leave the life of the Slayer behind. It quickly becomes apparent that this, for Buffy, is just a pipe dream and she spends much of the next few months adapting to the responsibilities and dangers of her calling as the Slayer.
She becomes best friends with Xander Harris and Willow Rosenberg, and meets her new Watcher, Rupert Giles. Together, they form the Scooby Gang, and work together to battle various supernatural occurrences which plague Sunnydale High. Buffy's first year of high school culminates with Buffy battling the villain known as the Master, and is drowned in the process. She is resuscitated by Xander after Angel is unable to as he "doesn't breathe," and rises to defeat the vampire.
After Buffy's first 'death', she continues to come to terms with her destiny, finds forbidden love with tortured vampire, Angel, and clashes with new villains Spike and Drusilla. Buffy loses her virginity to Angel, an event which triggers the loss of his soul and unleashes his sadistic alter-ego, Angelus. Angelus proceeds to subject the characters to mental and physical torture, killing much of Buffy's graduating class as a message to the Slayer herself.
At the end of Buffy's second year in high school, Buffy is forced to reveal her identity as the Slayer to her mother, and send the newly-good Angel to hell in order to save the world. She then leaves Sunnydale for Los Angeles in the hopes of escaping her life as the Slayer.
Buffy's third year of high school starts with the slayer having abandoned her calling (even her name), alone and desolate in LA mourning the loss of Angel and, indeed, her old life. A chance encounter with a demon sees Buffy sent to another hell-like dimension and slowly but surely she realises that she cannot escape who she is forever.
Buffy heads home trying to reconnect to her calling, her friends, and her family after her departure, as well as make difficult life decisions regarding her relationship with the resurrected Angel. She must also deal with the introduction of rebellious new Slayer Faith, who becomes increasingly destructive and disloyal over the course of Buffy's third year. Buffy is forced to stab Faith to save Angel's life just before Graduation, and leads her classmates into a climactic battle against the demonic Mayor of Sunnydale. Angel then leaves Sunnydale in hopes Buffy can have a more normal life without him.
Buffy takes her destiny into her own hands after Graduation, deciding to enrol as a college student at UC Sunnydale. She experiences some difficulty adjusting to college life, and becomes increasingly disconnected from her friends, who all seem to be moving in different directions. Buffy eventually finds a new love interest in the form of Riley Finn, a soldier in the demon-hunting government task-force known as the Initiative. She briefly joins forces with Riley's team, until they discover one of the Initiative's experiments, Adam, is creating an army of demon-human hybrids. Buffy literally unites with her friends to defeat Adam in a spell which invokes the power of the First Slayer.
Buffy's second (and technically final) year of college is fraught with many battles - not least with the hell-goddess Glory. This year sees Buffy fully embrace her destiny for the first time. A younger sister named Dawn mysteriously appears in Buffy's household, her existence having been seamlessly integrated with memories of the other characters. Buffy suffers emotional turmoil throughout this year, coming to the awful realization Dawn is not actually her sister, the deterioration of her relationship with Riley, the discovery that Spike has become obsessed with her, and her mother's death from a brain aneurysm. While on a quest to learn more about her nature as the Slayer, Buffy is told "death is her gift, a message she has difficulty understanding until Dawn's life is in danger and Buffy sacrifices her own life to save Dawn's by diving into Glory's interdimensional portal and closing it.
Thinking Buffy is stuck in Glory's hell dimension, Buffy's friends perform a spell to bring her back from the dead. Buffy is thus forced to claw her way from her own version of Heaven and, ultimately, her own grave. Forced to take a mundane and degrading job slinging burgers at the Doublemeat Palace to make ends meet, she begins suffering from extreme depression and self-loathing, embarking on a violent sexual relationship with the vampire Spike which leaves neither satisfied and spawns dire consequences for the both of them.
Possibly the worst year of Buffy's life culminates in a battle with her best friend when Willow becomes psychotic with dark magics after the human, Warren, shoots and kills Willow's girlfriend Tara and wounds Buffy in the process. She then tries to destroy the world to end all suffering, although Xander gets through to her in the end. Buffy then promises to change her self-destructive behavior in order to be there for her sister.
She begins training Dawn, uber-aware that she's not always going to be around to protect her sister. Buffy is then confronted with the threat of the First Evil and becomes a reluctant leader to the Potential Slayers, who are being killed off systematically by the First Evil. Initially respectful of her, the First Slayers become increasingly more alienated by her tactics and decisions throughout the year and wind up kicking her out of her own house when they feel she's made one mistake too many. She unexpectedly becomes emotionally close with Spike, who has sought out his soul in an effort to prove himself to her. Heading towards what she thinks might be her final battle, Buffy takes the fate of both herself and many other 'potentials' into her own hands when she shares her power with her 'all those who could be chosen' before leading them into an epic battle against an army of Turok-Han vampires. She also confesses her love to a disbelieving Spike before he sacrifices himself to save the world; as he dies, Buffy escapes Sunnydale, jumping on the top of a bright yellow school bus as Sunnydale falls in around itself.
Personality: Though initially Buffy struggled with being the Chosen One, she eventually matured and went on to accept her calling. Buffy is a protector, first and foremost, willing to make personal sacrifices and die herself to save the world and the people in it.
She can be bossy at times, especially when it comes to life or death situations, but she's working on it. She is also fiercely loyal to her friends (unless they turn evil and then all bets are off) and will do anything, literally, to protect her sister. (Throwing herself off of towers and taking a job as a school counsellor -- yes, really -- all withstanding.)
Buffy is fairly useless when it comes to relationships with members of the opposite sex. She's had three long-term relationships to date - two with a vampire, one with a normal guy - and she succeeded in pushing most (if not all) of said men away. She loved Riley but never told him, loved Spike but didn't tell him 'til it was too late and told Angel often enough that he went a little homicidal and killed half her graduating class which just backed up everything she'd ever known about love; it sucks.
Buffy can still be considered a girl at times - she's into fashion (not that her calling helps that or anything) and can be seen wearing the latest trends... Or her version of said trends, anyway. She talks fast, uses tons of slang and cannot drive for shit. Nor does she have any intention of learning, either.
Physical Description: Sarah Michelle Gellar as PB. Canon.
Does your character have any special powers/abilities/gifts?: Buffy is a vampire slayer so she's blessed with preternatural speed and strength. She can handle almost any weapon with precision. Buffy also possesses quick healing powers. Buffy is well-versed in most supernatural lore, though she has a pesky hit-first, ask-questions-later thing going on.

Character based writing sample:
A Slayer Walks into a Cemetery... (aka, Buffy meeting Sam Winchester for the first time - set S3 of BTVS) Zombie Apocalypse For The Win... (aka, Buffy, Dean, Sam and Anya dealing with a Zombie Apocalypse... In their own unique fashion) Just as an aside? Yes, I've had the privilege of dabbling my Buffy in the SPN-verse already. This doesn't mean I have any preconceived ideas of kidnapping Sam or Dean for Buffy's amusement for this wonderful game. I was just showing that Buffy plays well with others. Ha. ;)
I can provide other samples if you so wish but most of these are first-person and I prefer to play in third. XD
