I've been slayertatiana for over three years now, and, even though I was never entirely happy with the name, inertia has kept me from doing anything about it.

I named myself after my Diablo II assassin in honour of her defeating Baal. I was elated about that achievement; success at D2 requires decent gear, or at least knowledge of what type of gear a particular character needs, and some sort of logic to the placing of skill and stat points. I'd already found that beating Diablo and Baal was very difficult with an unplanned, poorly-geared paladin, and almost as hard with the necromancer I tried next. The assassin made it with equally inferior gear, but I'd managed to hit on a skill set-up that worked: she cast Burst of Speed and raced around slicing monsters up with Dragon Claw and some points in Claw Mastery and Weapon Block. I was so proud of myself when she slew Baal (assisted by her faithful mercenary Jemali) and earned the title of Slayer. I decided to commemorate her victory by using her name next time I had to register at some website to get access to something... I never expected I'd still be using LJ years later!

Around that time I discovered Diablo websites and started learning a bit about how the game worked. I discovered the meaning and importance of such things as "resistances" and "Attack Rating" and with the information I was able to salvage Tatiana and turn her into a successful martial artist, now using Phoenix Strike and decked out in her self-found Bartuc's Talons, Moser's Blessed Circle, Tal's mask, Smoke runeword armour (a heavy embossed plate, because red pants are absolutely mandatory), Lavagouts, Natalya's boots... she and Jemali are now facing the Hell Ancients, and when I finally get her past them and finish off Baal again she'll become Matriarch Tatiana and my top character. And she did it all solo.

I still think it's a silly username, though.
