I have a jar of dried baking yeast that expired two years ago. I tested it this morning and found that it can barely summon up a froth. Normally I put any food-related rubbish in the compost bin, but I have a feeling that the warmth and moistness of compost might encourage what little energy remains in the yeast to create a Science Experiment. My compost doesn't turn out very well at the best of times; feeding it the yeast probably wouldn't help matters.

But I have an urge to try it anyway.
