Lakota Secede from the U.S.

Jul 21, 2008 10:26

This occured in December 2007 and I've been doing my best to follow this story. Here's the run down.

The Lakota Indians (also known as the Sioux) have seceded from the United States on the basis that 98% of their treaty has been broken by the U.S government. The new Lakota Nation takes up a large amount of area in these states: South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota and Colorado. They say their secession is a peaceful one, and they will not be forming any type of military group. All people are welcome to live in Lakota Nation as long as they renounce their U.S. citizenship. So far the U.S. government has not offered any comment on the secession nor have they recognized it.

Below is a short video explaining the situation.

Anyways, feel free to post any comments on what you think about this interesting situation.
