On discussion posts and general community tweakings
Okay, so I posted a question here about which direction you all would like to take slayers_etc in, regarding discussion posts. Everyone seems to be in favor of them. So, right off the bat, we WILL have discussion posts here. But I need a little feedback on something before we kick things off.
A lot of people raised the issue that some discussion they wanted to have fell out of the scope of untrad couples. Basically, now that we've gotten together for a bit here and read some stories from different viewpoints, a lot of people want to swap ideas about the Slayers world in general. And obviously everybody wants to talk about these types of things. They don't really fall under the scope of this community, though, and I think if "general discussion" was added to the growing list of things this community is starting to include, eventually things will get out of hand.
Now, I have an idea on how to solve that, but first, a few words on untrad discussion. There are a lot of things that can be considered untrad discussion. I'd pretty much define it as being anything having to do with an untrad pairing that isn't a general Slayers topic. Like say, the idea of how Xelloss and Firia compliment each other as 'clergy'. Or how come Gaav and Valgaav aren't considered trad in many places. Or Sylphiel and Lina: OTP? XD Discussions can range from themes in the show, fandom politics, or just fawning over a pairing. Since this can get so nebulous, I think it'd be a good idea for us to hammer out what we want to talk about in the comments section here. That way when I retool the info I can just put a link to this post as a sort of guideline for discussion posts. X3 So, in comments, talk about any issues you could think of coming up concerning untrad discussion, and ask questions if you have them. If we swat things back and forth enough, we'll get a pretty good idea of how things should go.
Okay, that's taken care of. In regards to general discussion, if everyone wants to do that, I suggest moving that over to here. Clair Bistro is something I've been tinkering with for awhile. It's changed purposes a lot. Currently it's there for people to discuss hardcore Slayers alchemy references in, plus for me to post scans in. However, I originally planned for it to have a more general information purpose. I think it'd be a good idea to retool it as a Slayers discussion/scans community, with alchemy on the side. Technically there's already places for Slayers discussion, but I've already mentioned the trad bias, haven't I? nn; Besides, another one in the bunch won't hurt anything. XD; So basically, are you guys for having an additional discussion community for non-pairing types of things like magic ideas and such, plus all my cool doujinshi scans, or would you rather not? It's your call, since a community without...a community in it is kinda pointless. So cast your vote here.
Okay, that's pretty much it. This community's mutating a lot in its early days but I think that's a good thing. It should bend to the members' purposes instead of the members bending to it. Don't start any discussion posts till everything's finalized, zo. We need to get all of our ducks in a row before we can start OTP-ing them.
