Of course I fear death
We hear a lot about how we shouldn't fear death.
But since we are biological entities, we must necessarily fear, loathe, avoid death. It's hardwired into our system and there's no way to override this. This is probably instinct number one in any living organism (the ones that didn't have it have long become extinct).
Of course, there are people who plunge into a house on fire to save their children, or who face martyrdom singing hymns of faith, or who give their life for flag and country or some noble cause. But, first of all, none of this applies to most of us most of the time. And, if it ever does, it will simply show that there are other things that can be more important to us, but we will still have the same aversion to death that any biological entity has.
So, those who tell us not to fear death are well-intentioned, but they may be doing us more harm than good. The problem is that very often this makes us feel guilty. We feel that we should accept death, but can't, not deep inside. So, since we're not willing to die gracefully, as we're told we should, we feel that we are failing at some test, that we're not good enough.
But we will fear death; that's a fact we can all count on. We won't embrace it voluntarily. We just don't want to die. So, rather than try to convince ourselves that if we try hard enough we'll overcome it, we need to accept our aversion to death as a fact. I am mortal (a biological being), and so I do fear death. That's a normal evolutionary strategy of my species. Therefore I am normal. I'm not failing any supposed test.
In our process of personal evolution we may -eventually- reach a point where we realize that we are not only biological beings. If we discover our true, divine self, we will know that what we really are, in the higher plane, is immortal. Our spirit does not fear death... simply because it's not touched by it. But even so, our human nature will continue to fear death, as it's supposed to.
Y sin cut ni nada.
