"Charles!" She screamed, her voice hoarse and almost broken. She could see him, but dared not move. He held Gunn tight, his eyes threatening, but even then... she knew she couldn't do anything. Couldn't do anything to save him, as much as she wanted to.
His last act had been to save her, "Willow... go! Now! Don't... wait..."And then came the sickening crunch of Gunn's neck breaking, his eyes becoming vacant as he soul left his body, which sagged to the ground almost instantly.
"No..." Willow breathed, the musty smell of antique books filling her nostrils and brining her back to consciousness. She blinked, confused, and coughed up the dust collected from an old tome near her head. She placed her hands palm down and began crawling away from the mass before falling unconscious again, the spell taking more energy from her than she realised...
