Career opportunities (the ones that never knock) [Giles and Cassie]

She was going to be upset, that much Giles could tell. Cassie was very young and was the type to carry the world on her shoulders, much like another young blond Giles was fond of. That might be why he took a little time to himself after Buffy left his room. He sipped at a cold cup of tea, made a sour face and moved to get himself coffee instead.

Once he was in the kitchen, ignoring the eerie silence throughout the house, he pulled out a cup and poured to the top, foregoing cream or sugar. He rooted around in the refrigerator and found the waffles he was looking for, popping four into the oversize toaster on the counter. Sipped at his coffee while he waited for the food to heat up.

Syrup went into the microwave to cut the cold and then onto the steaming hot waffles. He filled a tray with some fruit and orange juice and their breakfast and headed up to Cassie's room. He was almost tipped over on his behind on the way up, met with a stammering and apologetic young slayer who helped his right himself. The orange juice only spilled marginally.

Her room was one of the singles at the other end of the hallway. The girls all decorated their doors like college dorm rooms, with decorative names and messages on white boards. Their meanings were lost on him for the most part; something he was sure was done on purpose. He rapped quietly on Cassie's door.

"Cassandra, it's Mr. Giles. I've made a bit too much for breakfast and I'm hoping you might take some of it off my hands?" He called, switching the heavy tray from one arm to the other.
