Post of Many, Many Firsts

Aug 05, 2006 09:33

Right...I'm updating once again just because I think many have been wondering on what I've been doing for the last month plus or so. In summary: I got a job as a business magazine (Business Today) reporter. That alone should explain on my busy weekdays and tiring weeknights...I think...^^;;

As the title goes, this will be a post of many firsts. Interesting note: All of this happened in the last two weeks...XD;;

Food and Stripping Models
During my time in the office I go out on assignments. Most interesting parts of my job so far is going to high-class events such as doing a food review at the Nikko Hotel Benkay Japanese restaurant, in which I  think I ordered more than RM300 worth of food to try out. XD My first time in eating large portions of chunks of unagi, thick slices of raw fish and loads of sushi. Amazing stuff there. Then there is the Samsung ULTRA mobilephone launch, which was my first event where I had to clarify with the registrar that I'm really from the magazine. It was at that event where I had my first experience with broiled oysters for starters and chocolate parfiats for desserts. Interesting note: it's also the first event where I see the hired models do a total top strip (for the men) and jacket strip (for the ladies) to reveal the new mobilephone models. Very amusing I must say.

Penang Assignment
My first flight outstation in over 10 years, to Penang specifically. This was for work...got up at 5am and headed to KL Sentral for my first maiden ride to KLIA via KL Express (ERL). Initially I thought I would be staying there...imagine my surprise when I was informed that I'll be heading back on the same day! Wow...my first ever 1-day outstation working-trip. So happens that my flight took off from the KLIA terminal and not the Low-cost Carrier Terminal as I expected. That would translate as...Victor's first time flying out of the KLIA! XD Oh, and I must add...all my expenses were covered...food, train-ride to and from KLIA and the most importantly the plane ticket. Thus, my first trip outstation where I didn't even spend a single cent. XDXDXD At Penang, the event I covered was just a simple ho-hum thing. The after-event plans were the more interesting parts of the trip. Ate at a Japanese restaurant (again!) This pictures would help explain why I was thoroughly amused:

Yes, it's Ichigo's dad!!! XDXD How often do you see that kind of coincidence eh? My chances of this ever happening is close to nil so this is really an amusing moment for me. And the food this place serves really justifies the name! XDXD Big and in character just like Kurosaki Isshin! XD This is the cold soba bento-set:

After lunch, headed back to the airport where I promptly rang Jin and arranged to meet with him. He rode his bike through the jam to get to the airport just to see me. That's something wei! XD

TMNet Event (Dusty, take note! XD)
I attended TMNet's launch of its EZ 2 Own Broadband PC Programme. Thought it would be a quick thing but that was not to be when I learned that the Minister of Energy, Water and Communications was coming. Wow, my first ministral event...XD;; It was eventful to say the least. And the man is very amusing and straight to the cuff with his comments...good stuff! This event also marks my first time I seen so many highly placed people in one area. GMs, CEOs and MDs from 5 major companies and its 8 or so partners all were present for this event.

German Meat!
This happened just last Thursday where I went to this German MD's birthday bash to interview him. It's called the Deutsches Haus. They serves loads of German beer of all kinds and an exotic selection of German food. Since it was a birthday bash thing, the food was already prepared on a buffet line. You don't expect me not to eat as much as I can, eh? XD Afterall it's my first time eating German food. XD The ones I enjoyed most were the Assorted Sausages, which are all pork meat mixed with a variety of herbs, the Berliner Chicken Wings with Blue Cheese sauce (smelt like sour cream and onion) and the Schnitzels with Mushroom sauce. Very nice! And of course, the selection of German breads, slices of ham and thick cheese were heaven! XDXDXD I topped that off with some German red wine too...woot!

Many firsts in my first month of work don'cha think? Hehe! (Yes, pun intended!) XDXD And so that's my life at work so far...everything else is the usual paper-chaser work. I do get some gadgets to review but that kinda novelty runs out after a while...hehehe...^^;; Right, if I got more interesting things to write about my job, especially my travels, you'll see it soon enough. Hope you enjoy the pix!

Cheers
Victor
