+Edit+ I had to add in that one character 'cuz he is deserving of a tribute! And now...on with the show

Been a while since I wrote fanfiction...what, some 8 years maybe? Anyway, I always had this in my mind when the quake happened. And each time I saw more stories, I had this desire to pen up something to reflect the quake-tragedy. Well, after weeks of deliberating, here's something to show:

---------------------

Prayer

It was tragic. Still is. Those are Peter Parker's thought as he watches the ruins and decimation left in the wake of China’s most devastating quake in 30 years on Dr. Strange’s LCD TV. With him were Dr. Strange and Wolverine.

“I felt the floors moved,” reported one story. “Quake places construction quality control in question,” another headline wrote. “Quake Lake may burst dams and destroy towns!” screams one more. The most telling of the pain and suffering the Chinese are going through are the pictures and videos that play all day on the news.

Most tragic are the stories of children dying, still buried under the rubble, some with their fingers clinging desperately to small crevices - a slim gleam of hope that drifted away as their life could not hold out. Others begged for help until they drew their last breath. However, there are lucky ones, most, miraculously, still holding on, while some, out of desperation, demanded to have their limbs amputated just so they can be pulled out to safety.

As for the families, their anguish is forever etched in Peter’s mind - the pain of losing their only child is something he can closely relate to.

Smashing his fist on a table, he cries out in disgust. “What are we doing here, minding our own business when thousands of kids are dying under the rubble? We should be out there saving them!”

“And you don’t think any of us wants to be there, bustin’ rocks and pulling out the little ones to safety, Pete!?” Wolverine snaps back. “It’s not as easy as back here where we can just run out and save the world! Running into China just like that will make it worse!”

Peter turns to the feral man in unbridled fury. “Then what do you suggest we do?! Watch TV and let them suffer?!”

Dr Strange, from his hovering Zen-posture, looks up. ““What we can do is wait. Be reasonable Peter. It is not for us to just storm out and head to China with no resources and proper planning.”

“But we have a plan! You can teleport us there right now, Doc! Then we can start helping!”

Wolverine waves away Peter’s shoddy plan with the shake of his head. “And cause a mass confusion within the system in place? Heh, imagine the good that’ll do.”

Peter throws his hands up in exasperation. “Then what do you suggest, wise-guy!?”

As he takes a long drag from his cigar, Wolverine considers his answer. “For now, while we wait for the cue to go, we pray. We pray for those kids and the people that are over there now, saving them.”

Sighing, Peter rubbed at the spot where his fist lay to waste a few milimetres of wood grain. "I wish Cap was here. He would've rushed into China in a heartbeat."

Wolverine let off a melancholic chuckle. "Yeah...he'd do that! No...the winghead would've probably done more than rush in. He'd muster up a huge superhero rescue force to help with the relief efforts. Haha! That'd be great sight to see!"

With a small smile, Dr Strange replies with an approving nod to Wolverine's comment.

Peter, meanwhile, looks longingly at the chair where Captain America sits for the Avengers' game of poker. "Heh! Yeah...Cap'd do that...and he'd...say the same words you did: We pray."
As the troubled young man, seemingly finding his moment of peace, turns his attention back to the TV, an ethereal voice whispers in Strange's mind. Yes young man...that's the best thing we can do...we pray. Ghostly as it sounds, it had the steel and strength of a dear friend who knew how to live the American dream and what it truly represents. And his smile grew a little brighter after.
Fin.

I penned up alternate versions of it with anime stuff too. Like Ranma, Sailormoon and so on. By far, this, I feel, expresses the most depth. Hope you enjoyed it!
