today at work we were discussing what should be on the menu at PF Chang's. we figured that we should put some grilled panda on the menu, for exotic appeal. most people would be too horrified to actually order it, so we wouldn't really need many. but, i thought to myself, i'd eat the panda. i'd eat the panda and enjoy it, even if it tasted horrible. then i thought, we should have stir-fried panda served with grilled dolphin, a sort of surf and turf. i'd also eat gorilla, anteater, cougar, or a number of other exotic animals on the endangered species list. i was contemplating whether i'd eat human if it were set in front of me. i don't know if i could do it, but i know i'm curious about it. not to taste it, because it's not about taste. the whole inspiration for wanting to eat these animals is to say that i've done it, not to enjoy eating them. it's sort of like sport hunting. invariably, there are moral and ethical obligations to fulfill that deny any temptation to develop a taste for the exotic animals i speak of, but i can still muse about them.

yesterday, or maybe it was monday, when i was walking home from class, i saw some asian kid totally faceplant into the sidewalk. it was hilarious. he wasn't on a skateboard, or biking, or doing something stupid. he was walking across the street with his asian friends, 4 abreast so nobody else could walk by them on the sidewalk - in either direction - and he just faceplanted. his backpack came up and landed on his head. you know what i mean? that really pisses me off. no other identifiable groups seem to walk around campus like that. if there's a group of 5 white girls, they walk in couples or some form of a cluster, but they also move out of the way so people can pass. if there's a group of 5 black guys, they walk in the middle of the sidewalk, leaving room for people to pass on either side. i think it's a societal issue. i think that it must be, because why else would people completely disregard a society's norms? the norm in our country is to walk on the right side and let people pass. i think the norm in their countries must be to walk wherever they feel like walking, and all be one next to the other so as to maximize area. i could be wrong.

i missed the lunar eclipse last night because of the fucking weather. we're in the desert, so there shouldn't be weather. at all. but last night for whatever reason god said "ross, you're not gonna see that lunar eclipse. you'll just have to wait until 2010 for the next one." what an asshole.

i'm going to vegas in a few weeks, and it's going to be amazing. it's my first time. i'll remember it for eternity. and i plan on winning a lot of money, too.

so the auto-spell-check for this little word processing area says that "gonna" is a correctly spelled word, but "faceplant", "i'm", "vegas", and "asian" are all misspelled.

i'm living my life in as much selfishness as i possibly can right now. the only way i can excuse myself from totally (ab)using the people around me is because i tell them exactly what i'm in it for. don't get me wrong, i haven't turned into some sociopath who rivals himself to a tyrant, i don't impose myself upon others, but i just don't do anything if it's not beneficial to me. i won't drive 20 minutes away to pick someone up unless it suits me. i won't pick up anyone's shift at work because i'm making enough money right now, but i expect them to pick up my shifts if i ever want to give them up. and it works, too.

i found a really cool musical artist the other day/month/year(?) called "mando daio". he's got a really cool sound. i don't know if that's a person's name or what, but i know i like some of his stuff. some of his stuff really blows, too. i've started listening to a lot of femi-power-rock [yes, i realize i have no actual basis for calling the stuff i'm listening to "femi-power-rock", but i think it sounds good, and that's that.] lately. feist (the "1 2 3 4 tell me that you love me more..." song from that ipod commercial? that's feist), and the breeders, and sara bareilles, and the hush sound, and some others, too. if you know anything about these artists, then you know that they share nothing in common with each other, besides the fact that the lead vocalist is a woman (except in the hush sound, where it's a duo).

i've been drinking a lot lately. i like that. if you look back at my new years' resolutions, that was one of them.

my car's fixed now. $2000 to get it repaired. how much does that suck? i've been less late. i've gambled more lately. i'm getting straight a's.

i still have to finish writing something, and get a real job. the writing should be easier, but i don't know. it's just so hard to come up with something that i'm excited to read after i've finished it. i guess since i'm the author, i act as a spoiler because i know what's going to happen next. but, because of this, i've started writing some ultra-short fiction. some of it's outlandish, some of it's not. they range from a few lines to a few paragraphs. i really like them. so, in a way, i've completed a few dozen works, but i don't really see them as real fiction yet, more like practice fiction.

i hope you all enjoyed this little update into the land of the sun. the funny thing about writing this? i actually enjoy it. the worst part about that is there's no fiction to it, so it's not art. cheers.
