First, happy birthday to
sakurae and
thedreamerworld! Hope you both have a wonderful day today!
Again, I've been quiet on LJ. Admittedly, I'm more vocal on Twitter than anything else these days, if for no other reason than stupid links and short morsels of conversation take much less time than writing a full post. However, might as well keep afloat of things here.
- I've seen people do some variant of a bunch of 30 days memes to keep active on here. I haven't actually quite seen one that interests me yet. Can anyone see one that might?
- It's getting close to Halloween. Normally, that would be the weekend that I'd be up at Yaoi-Con. Especially given that some East Coast folks I know are coming in for the con, and given that they actually have a guest or two that do things that aren't yaoi-related, I really sorta want to be up there. And I really do like that con for getting more intimate personal hangout time with NorCal friends (yes, I know, Yaoi-Con; don't misread into that). However, this year, I'm actually going to be out east hanging out with a different set of friends and partying it up there. Which reminds me that I still have to finish up my costume. :/
- Of course, the sad thing is that I had planned all this before I had heard about the Stewart/Colbert rallies taking place in DC. Which to be honest, if it wasn't for the fact that I'm pretty much keeping my plans linked to my friends, I'd be tempted to run to. Unfortunately, I'm effectively going to be 4 hours away from DC, and that's just far enough to put nails into the coffin of any plan like that anyway. Too bad. Those look like they're going to be potentially crazy awesome, and I have to wonder if any of my DC friends who aren't coming out west are going to hit that.
- Then we get into November. One con left on the schedule: PMX. With Mikomicon now out of the picture due to the "postponement" of the event (quotes because I honestly don't like their odds at this point), that's all I have left this year. Ought to be relatively chill. Right now, the guest list isn't all that spectacular, and to be honest, I don't see that improving, so I might be spending a lot of time bugging cosplay staff hanging out in the "cosplay lounge" bugging cosplay staff. XD
- Next year, again, I'll be trying to cut back a bit on cons, in favor of trying to do a few non-con trips to see folks. All things considered, that might not actually be all that much. ^^;; Anime LA, as it turns out, is in the cards, as I made commitments to shoot now. So are Fanime, Dragon-Con, and probably AX, though I might shrink down a day, depending on how I want to do things. I'm trying to lean toward Katsucon. Basically, add those up, and that'd be 5 cons, where this year, I attended 8, if I count the 1 day I spent at Comic-Con. Of course, given that the other 2 are a convention where I attended mostly as an excuse to go to Hawaii, and the upcoming PMX, that perhaps isn't cutting back all that much.
- Oh, something else important about November: ELECTIONS. In LA, today's apparently the last day to register to vote for the November elections. You must postmark your registration by today. I'm not exactly keen on the gubernatorial race, where frankly, I don't have a keen sense of which to pick, and I'm frankly only leaning toward Brown because he's run this state before during an economic downturn, and that has to count for something, and because I frankly have a real distaste for the Republican party at this point in time. As for the propositions, the only one where I'm feeling reasonably confident are voting up 19 (someone's got to start the ball on legalizing pot; might as well be us crazies), voting up 20 (make incumbents work a little bit harder), and shooting down 23, 25, and 27 (I hate the way 23 is worded, 25 isn't quite sound for me, and I have to logically vote opposite of 20 for 27).
- Um, life is... life. Things at home could be worse, but they certainly could be much much better. Things at work could be worse, but they could also be much better. :|
- While I'm thinking a bit about birthdays, it's 130 days to mine. Unfortunately, it'll be my turn next year to turn into perpetual 29, which is to say my age will stop actually having a 2 in front of it. >_< On the one hand, I'm still kind of pissed off at myself that there's still some things I haven't done by now. On the other hand, at least to this point, it looks like good odds I'll survive until it. Which has to be something. No clue what to do to celebrate. Maybe I'll pull what talonomega is pulling for his 30th in a number of weeks by hitting Vegas. More likely, however, I'll try to coordinate a nice dinner somewhere.
- I've already started my savings account to save up expenses to move out of the house. Things took a hit back in July and August for specific reasons. But this time, I feel modestly confident that I should have it ready to go and full by about AX time next year or so. My emergency fund, admittedly less so. That I'll have to work on.
- Part of the reason is that as of today, my last car payment goes out from my bank account. Since I finished paying off my student loans last year, with my car payment out of the way, and my credit card basically paid off each month, once I pay it off this month, I'll be effectively debt-free. :D This is a pretty good feeling.
- So, how are you all doing this fine day? Oh wait, it's still rainy outside? Suuuuuuucks. D:
