Well, we're back now, but we were on holiday lol. We went to visit Jase & co over on the west coast. We came back on Sunday (of course, I then started with a niggly throat in the evening and by Mon morning it was fully blown sore throat owieness - more on that later), I slept the whole journey thanks to the power of The Good MedsTM.
It was a great week, busy but really fun (a brief synopsis because it's less fresh in my memory). Luke and Molly got on great (he wanted to help her with her school work lol). Big and little kids enjoyed having a kick about on the nearby green. We did a little shopping, watched some DVDs (never thought I'd laugh at 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' & Luke was declared the Last Airbender for his skill with certain wind-related actions). The local museum had some fun stuff on for kids, Luke had fun making some stuff including a mosaic name plate for his bedroom door, and an exhibition of some local art the quality of which was really impressive. Lots of really cool animals at the animal park, lions, hippos, giraffes, penguins, wallabies, lemurs that run free through the park... it's a walk around conservation park so you get up close with animals that for one reason or another wouldn't survive in the wild; we were quite amused by the humping tortoises lol, my fave were the cheetahs.
On Saturday we went to the Holker Festival, it was a lovely day (I'd booked the weather ahead of time), sunny but with a breeze. There was so much good stuff on sale, along with the vast array of plants & flowers there was also local made jewellery, paintings, food, clothing... I had a delicious venison burger for lunch and Luke tried a bit and loved it. We got Molly's birthday present (a foot long pink sparkly gecko made of beads and wire - she wanted it to hang on her wall. I quite wanted a blue one but they'd put too much red in it), some of the bead work animals were fascinatingly well done, it wasn't local but fair trade from africa, I think. Then we were heading for the bandstand to listen to a little music and chill for a few when we spotted a 'physics in the field' stand... TJ helped Luke make a rocket out of paper and sellotape (they launched them with a high pressure pump) while Mike and Molly made one. No there was no competition to create the rocket that went the furthest/highest...not at all ;) lol. The band were playing jazz, which Luke discovered he loved. While there we were talking to another 'dad' who said if the kids loved science we should check out their stand (private school) where they had water invertebrates. Which we did on our way to the exit, they had some cool water insects that basically looked like dead sticks and Luke got an impromptu lesson on water purity and insect life. I got a new blue leather wallet & TJ got his mum a purse, his sister a bag and his dad a hat (don't ask lol). I almost forgot the cupcake company stand...which had so many delicious looking cupcakes it was hard to decide which to get. We bought lots. lol. Got some yummy lemon cheese & lime cheese & the purest looking honey I've ever seen. Oh and there were chocolate kebabs at one point, too lol. In all, a really great day.
As a result of Saturday, I was utterly knackered on Sunday, only we had to drive home. I wasn't the only one who slept though, Luke fell asleep almost straight away too, apparently. Neither of us usually sleeps when travelling. I woke up when we got home, which is a really disconcerting thing to do (having lost 5+ hours), because you feel like you blinked and someone moved the world around you lol.
So yesterday I woke up at 4am with a really sore throat again. Now, I only finished the last lot of antibiotics on Thursday and that sore throat had been better since about Mon/Tues. So, I figured that the infection had just come back with vengeance. Called the docs as soon as they opened at 8 and was surprised to get an appointment at 9.30. However, in hindsight, that might have gone against me. The doc said that the back of my throat was red but couldn't see any tonsil inflammation (I dunno where he thinks tonsils are, but the ones I looked at were - granted they don't have white spots this time). He said he thought it was probably a virus, but luckily he gave me a prescription for penicillin to get filled if it doesn't get better in 3-4 days. However, it got worse as the day went on and by 4pm I had blisters at the back of my throat, so Mikey got the prescription filled and I started taking them last night. Just as well too because it's even worse this morning. Hopefully the penicillin will kick in soon and stamp on this one.
Well, that's pretty much the last week in the Nate clan. TJ is back at work, Luke is back at school & Mikey and I have a heap of laundry to do. lol.
*snuggles lotsly* How are you flisters?
