Its been fun learning about Vlad this past week, but poor Tiber is being such a pussy about it.
First some observations:
Tiber is 14.2 pounds
Vlad is 10.4 pounds
Tiber looks like he's twice the size of Vlad.
The first night Tiber was courious. He was sniffing my coat and
hands the whole time while Vlad was in the bathroom recovering.
Here is I caught Tiber sniffing my jacket when I came out of the Bathroom that first night.
And here he is sniffing my hands while I was loading the pictures up to my computer.
Later that evening since Tiber waas so courious and Vlad didn't seem to
stressed out, we switched spots.. put tiber in the bathroom so he could
check out vlad's area, and let Vlad roam about the house.
After watching both of them for a while.... Tiber just seemed courious
in the bathroom.. no hissing, just snif snif snif. and Vlad was
just sniffing the apt. out. So Tiber finially had it enough of staying
in such a small space... soooo I decided to let Tiber out.
Pardon the toddler mess and Sorry its so dark. :) We have awful lighting.
Vlad is up looking in the mirror and doesn't even hear Tiber coming (they both have bells on their collars).
Vlad has seen tiber. His ears are back, and his stance is kinda
silly cause he was surprised. (he hasn't done this since then).
Close up on Vlad.. the first meeting.
Close up on Tiber.. the first meeting
At this point i'm a little more worried about Vlad because he is soo
much smaller and such a sweet cat. But from watching him explore
the house and the way he treated tiber's "special" spots, it seemed to
me that Vlad has been around other cat's before.
Tiber started growling, So I picked up Vlad and put him back in teh bathroom for the night.
Day one (Wed) and Day two(Thurs):
Vlad only ate when I was in there. Like because I was "watching his back" he felt comfortable enough to eat.
Tiber didn't eat at all, except late at night after everyone went to
bed, and because he has a sensitive stomach, he'd throw it up.
I was a bit worried with each. I only let Vlad out for a little
bit at a time these two days. Vlad was usually quite friendly,
meowing at Tiber and would follow Tiber around. Which Tiber did
NOT like. At one point they were both doing low growls that
sounded like a whale song.. Tiber low, and Vlad slightly higher (he
kinda has a girly cat voice)..
MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeoooooooooooooo.
When they get that way back Vlad would go to the Bathroom.
Thursday night there was a quick fight and I think Vlad kicked Tiber's
butt. Tiber was on the ground ears flat, head on the floor next
to the refridgerator and Vlad was a few inches away standing up... I
was in the office at the time working and didn't hear any signs that
they were going to do so. There were no growls or hisss.. just
all of a sudden "RAAAH HISS AAACCK" something like that. I
ran in there.. saw vlad a few inches from tiber.. scooped him up and
back in the bathroom he went. and tiber ran under the
bed. I couldn't get him to check him out, but I didn't
htink there was any contact. Later that night did find one small
puncture that had already scabbed over by his head. My
mom's cat would come home with marks like that all over her head, and I
used to think they were mole bites, but I guess now I know what really
caused it.
Friday and Sat:
There have been a few more spats like that, but always short and no
more real contact that I can see. Usually it starts with Tiber
bolting and Vlad chasing. I really do think that if Tiber would
just stand up for himself a little more it'd be okay. But he such
a wuss!
Eating wise:
Tiber has eating a little bit more each day and hasn't thrown it up. Today he had no left over food from last night YAY!
Vlad, well he's been eating his and any of Tiber's left over. And
I have been letting him as he is REALLY Scrawny and needs the extra
food and I dont want Tiber's to go to waste (Since tiber was only
eating at night, when we put Vlad in the bath for the night, I would
set out a new dish for him, so he's getting his fair share).
I'm not sure how much of Vlads eating is because he really is hungry,
or if he's acting on the street cat diet of "this might be my last
meal."
Every night tiber comes like he usually does and gives us some special
kitten lovin and sleeps at the end of our bed and every morning Vlad is
Super happy to see us.
This is where they both usually stay.. Tiber on my monitor....Glaring
at Vlad. The first two days were with eyes and ears that said "I
HATE YOU I WILL KILL YOU DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT COMING NEAR
ME!!!!!!" The second two days his eyes and ears said "I WISH YOU
WOULD JUST DISAPEAR AND LEAVE ME ALONE!" (I just took this
picture today, and these eyesand ears say... grrr are you still here??)
Vlad can be found either sleeping in polo's chair behind me or just to
the left and behind me on polo's desk with a benji Blanket. He
was kind enough to jump up and pose for me while I was taking Tiber's
picture! After that he jumped down and is now sleeping in Polo's
chair, oh now he's following Polo and Benji in the bedroom while
they're getting dressed.
Vlad doesnt care, he'll just sleep, Tiber usually stares at him making
sure the little invader stays puts. But no longer are his eyes and ears
full of hostility, but they are watchful.
Personality Differences:
We've had Tiber since he was a kitten 6-8 weeks old (probably closer to
6)... and we have done a lot of things wtih him to make sure he's
tolerant to a lot of different things. We use a leash on him..
I've carried him on my back all around seattle, on busses, on the
ferry... and while he was little he would ride fairly well. Now
that he's a big lug its hard for me to do that. We even went to
the street fairs with him. Everywhere we went we'd get lots of
attention and he was fine with it. At home.. He's a type a cat
that comes to you for loving. If you go after him he will
tolerate it but you KNOW he rather be somewhere else. We clipped
his claws once every 4-6 weeks, and while he tolerates it, again he
REALLY doesnt want to do it and you know it. He's very deliberate
about where he sits and how he lays down, but he's also very
clutzy. Now Maybe he's this way because he has had our attention
for all of his life.. he's has more of a e "Spoiled Teenager"
attituded. Oh when Tiber is in a lovely stage he kneads
very delibertly and DROOLS all over. He also has waxy build up in
his ears so he LOVES to have his ears scratched pretty hard.
Vlad... oh my gosh, I forgot how affectionate a cat can be! He
willingly playes with Benji, even jumps up to sit next to him.. he
curls around my feet (tiber never does this).. his tail is almost
always shaking when we talk to him he's so happy (again Tiber has only
rarely done this). He even gives all of us licks on the nose or
hands. (tiber has only licked the water off my legs on
occasion). And becuase he has sneezeed a few times I have
my antibacterial hand gel near by.
He's very playful. I bought tiber one of those cat nip mouses..
and tiber LOVES the loose cat nip, but he NEVER touched it. And
its been laying on the floor for the last 2-3 years. Last night
and this morning.. vlad's been batting that thing all over the
house! Vlad just Floops down on the ground anywhere.. its quite
funny.. FLOP! and then rolls.. Doesn't care if you pet his belly, has
yet attacked me plafully like tiber does when we pet his belly (okay
not always so playfully). He just is happy golucky and loves to
be petted. He is persistent though.. he's always going through
the doors of closets and under the sink.. he is still a little jumpy at
new sounds, but that's to be expected. He has sneezed a couple of
time still, and we will be making an appointment for both of them at a
local cat clinic come the weekday. He seems to be learning his
name and what noises I make for different things.. such as "spppppf"
for "move it cat, get out of here."
All in all, I do see slow improvement.... and I'm hoping for the best.. I really hope things work out and they will be happy.
