[series]: Magic Knight Rayearth
[character]: Sang Yung
[character history / background]:

Little is known about Sang Yung. Perhaps as little as him. He's one of the series' minor characters, even more minor than Aska. He first appeared as her servant along with her right hand, Chang-Ang. Together with him, Sang Yung is seen to be giving Lady Aska advices, though he seems to be the more lenient one as compared to Chang-Ang with the latter forbidding Aska outright at times. He has a soft spot for her and would usually give in to her wishes. The same applies for Lady Aska as well.

Of course, given this attitude, he went along her whim of invading Cephiro when the former pillar, Princess Emeraude, died. Even if her reason for invading the country is just downright childish, he still did his best to serve and be with her. Surely this was so because Sang Yung promised to himself that he'll serve the crowned royalty of Fahren until the end. It just so happened that the crowned princess at that time is Lady Aska, whom he's also childhood friends with. This explains why they both look the same in age.

During their invasion of Cephiro, Fahren had some quarrels with neighboring invading countries as well, such as Chizeta and Autozam. And even if Autozam intercepted their paths leading to the country and Eagle telling them to back out, Fahren didn't give up. Not until Mokona told them that they're not worthy of becoming Cephiro's pillar. Sang Yung was present in each and every one of these trials, that the country he sworn his loyalty to, faced. After everything, peace soon enveloped Cephiro and its neighboring countries and all of Fahren are working hand in hand with the others to build a harmonious New Cephiro together.

[character abilities]:

Sang Yung, not being a member of royalty, can't execute any of Fahren's magic. However, he has a vast knowledge of it, which can be at par with Chang-Ang's. He also has deductive reasoning skills and can be very analytical when needed. Lady Aska said it so herself that even if Sang Yung doesn't look it, he knows a lot of things. Although, Sang Yung isn't equipped with any fighting skills. When dealt with these kind of situations, he'd probably cower in fear or even cry. It would be a different case when Aska's on the line as he'd probably risk himself on her behalf.

[character personality]:

There are two things about Sang Yung that one will immediately notice: he's a huge crybaby and he has an undying dedication to Aska. Actually, if you don't look close enough, only these two standing traits will be the most evident. After all, Sang Yung wasn't given enough panel time.

Being Aska's slave right hand, it's undeniable that his loyalty is to her. But this sense of loyalty transcends duty. Sang Yung serves Aska because he's her childhood friend, and perhaps due to something else entirely that fans speculate on. This loyalty is strengthened by the fact that he's not only devoted to her but also to Fahren, often saying that he'll do anything for the crowned royalty of his country.

Perhaps this gave way to his determination beyond his looks. Even if it doesn't show, Sang Yung can be tougher when needed be. When his beloved Aska and country are on the line, this loyalty transforms into something greater, a love willing to risk perils. A pertinacity that's ready to challenge things, in his own little way. Of course, this doesn't mean he'll probably outgrow his crybaby attitude. Crybaby because he can easily be reduced to tears when tough situations arise. This doesn't mean, however, that he can't be angered when provoked. Because he can. Sometimes. Rarely.

Devotion to Fahren had him getting education at par with royalties. After all, he had this aspiration of serving his country until the end. So it wasn't a surprise that Sang Yung is knowledgeable of his country's magic, culture and ways. He takes it upon himself to learn his surroundings and won't hesitate to research something if the situation calls for it.

All in all, he's a dork. But a loyal, sincere, polite dork.
