She's AMAZING!!!...
Jess my framer, that is...
I got accepted into Green Trees Gallery's artist co-op and the first show of artists who work in portraiture is at the end of this month. Though I completed Bob Dylan: Train To Cry and Johnny Depp: Layers in February and March respectively, I hadn't gotten around to having them framed. As my most recent pieces and ones that reflect a new direction in my portraits, I wanted them included.
So, I placed a paniced message on her cellphone Tuesday morning. She replied fairly promptly. I told her of my situation--a very tight turn-around--that was even more complicated with her vacation plans next week. The plan was drop off the pieces for her to work up some matte and frame solutions. I dropped the pieces off with her mother (owner of the gift and frame shop) Tuesday after work. She told me that Jess could get an order in for the materials if we could decide before noon on Wednesday. I said fine. Call me and I will take my lunch break early and review her choices.
I went into work early on Wednesday just to allow for "make-up" time. Jess went into work early too. She called me about 9 and said she had ideas for me to look at. I said I could get to a breaking point about 10:30 and meet her at the shop just before eleven.
By ten after, I'd given the OK on the matte and frame choices. Jess did a great job pulling the right color schemes together to compliment and showcase the artwork. She reminded me of her mentor, Sheryl, who did this all the time. (I had really gotten spoiled with her--just giving my OK to her great framing suggestions)
But like I said, I was very impressed with Jess' efficiency.
Today, I was surprised by a phone call in the early afternoon. It was Jess.
"I finished your pieces." she said.
What? The game plan was to have the material ready for her to complete when she got back from her vacation so I would have them ready the week they were due to the gallery.
"And they look quite nice, if I do say so myself!" she followed.
I said "wow!" And that I would try to pick them up after work today possibly. But with tonight's ARTSfest meeting I knew that was going to be difficult. It was.
So, tomorrow, I look forward to collecting these two pieces. I hope Jess will be in the shop but I doubt she'll be there that late.
I want to give her a big THANK YOU! She's amazing!
