[ monday -- late afternoon, after school and the brigade meeting -- sees anne shirley in the village centre. near the fountain but not quite so close as to look straight into the water. she faces away from the fountain and seems to be throwing things over her shoulder...waiting to here that tell-tale splash of success.
but with every sucessful throw, anne looks more and more troubled. it simply isn't right! she sits directly down on the path and cracks open her journal: ]
Tell me, are there any coins to be found in this place? I know that currency isn't needed for any of the things in the shops; however, it does seem most tragical that there aren't any coins to make wishes upon before tossing them into the fountain. I've been trying for a week with pebbles and they simply don't have the same effect.
Perhaps I should try with precious stones, instead. Are there any of those? I think I saw a beautiful necklace a few months back. I wonder if it's still there...[ and she trails off, sitting cross-legged in the square. daydreaming about a potential trove of luxury items that once belonged to a noble woman from the south of italy. ah, and she had the most beautiful raven-black hair... ]
