Sigh.

Argh, the wild rat shenanigans. It was probably five-something before I got to go to sleep. -_- I’d spent the last couple of nights on the air mattress over on the other side of the house in my grandmother’s living room, with the ratboys in temporary cages up in the loft. There had been no activity with the rat poison or anything (though, as I noticed yesterday, a whole bag of peanuts has gone away now...), so we decided that it was probably okay for me to move back up to my room. >_>

First of all, before I even turned the lights out (this was at about three AM), there were extremely loud chewing sounds coming from inside the wall separating my bathroom from my room. And also some rustling under my bathroom cupboard.

Then, as soon as the lights were out, the wild rat came right out to climb the side of the cage and harass my boys. I spent an hour or so dozing with my flashlight in hand; any time I heard the specific noises from that corner of the room, I’d fly up into a sitting position and turn the flashlight on in that direction, and watch the wild rat vanish over the edge of the table the cage is on. Except for one instance when I noticed that it was using 1) the closed bucket of dirty litter and 2) a window fan sitting right next to it as stairs to get up to the cage. I got up and moved both things away. Everything was fine for about ten minutes, and then it started getting up there again. I looked; it was coming up from the opposite side, which means it was somehow using the baseboard heaters as a jumping off point. I got up again, and pulled the table out into the middle of the room. That actually fixed that problem. :D

The thing is, the wild rat decided to test me some more, by going and rummaging around in my closet (across the room from the boys). I pointed the flashlight. It jumped out of my paper bag of spare computer parts. (WHY?) And THAT was the end of it. Either that, or the fact that the sun was kind of coming up and there was a sudden increase in traffic noise and rumbling was some kind of signal for the wild rat to leave for the night. >_>

I’m also pretty sure I heard sounds from the rat poison box. I haven’t looked at it yet to see if the poison bag’s been chewed into the way it’s supposed to be, but hopefully it is.
