It's officially Halloween season. I started my first prop. A floating hand in a jar.
I had a lot of old wire scraps so I fashioned them into a slightly oversized hand and then started building over them with some cotton balls I had. I honestly had no idea what I was doing (thought process was somewhat along the lines of, "Hmmmm...cottonballs are fluffy, stretchy, malliable, kinda web-y...I wonder"). Turns out they matte down with white glue really well (especially if you rip them up a little, or at least stretch them some). I'm waiting for the base of the hand to dry right now so I can move to the fingers. Also learned, hot glue is awesome, as usual, but it works really well to get that look of something covered in 50 years of cobwebs (as it thinnly pulls/feathers/stretches the cottonballs as you drag it accross them lightly). Not what I needed for this project sadly but I'll find some use for this trick!
So I'm going to go to Publix this week and see if I need anything that happens to come in a large enough jar for this hand. Hopefully I'll find something (I like getting dual purpose out of my supplies. In this case, needed food and a jar for crafts. Or at least that's what I try to convince myself)
Then I was thinking of messing with some weird materials (cheap hair gel? Maybe?) to get that strange suspended gel-esque look (only I'll totally have the hand tied in place or on a stand) and then throw some of the mini leds I have floating around my house beneath the jar and bam! Awesome halloween prop for next to nothing...
Or hopefully.
I don't know.
I'm just happy 'cause it's HALLOWEEN SEASON!!
*dies of crafter's joy*
I feel so inspired!
