They sit in silence together that's only pierced by the ship's hum and Leonard's constant flicking of a lighter. That noise would get disturbing to the peace, or what passes for peace, that's settled between them, if Sara didn't understand. Every flick of the lighter means he's thinking again of his former partner and what went down between them.

She's concerned for him but no longer knows how to share her care. She remembers hugs with her sister and with Oliver as well, but they're vague memories from before she died. She remembers the actions but not the emotions. She can only guess at what Leonard's feeling right now, and she's the last one to be able to comfort him. Besides, it's not like he wants to talk about it.

Not that she can blame him. She traces her fingers along the blade of her knife. She's not cutting herself this time -- never where others can see, no matter how much she trusts them or doesn't. She keeps her touch light enough that she feels the cold, hard strength of the blade as she remembers and tries not to think of her again. But of course, in trying not to, she only does so more.

Leonard lost Mick; she lost Lindsay. But whereas Mick and Leonard were together for years, she knew Lindsay for only a very short time. She's never had such a connection with any other woman, but she only knew Lindsay for days. She wonders what became of her, if she ever found love, if she ever got out of that miserable, little town, but then tries again to push the thoughts away with the touch of her favorite knife.

It won't do any good, she knows, to think of her. It only adds to the pain; it doesn't make it go away. It can't make it go away. Only time and forgetting will, and as long as she's remembering, she can't forget. She needs something to do, some skulls to bash . . . Maybe some training with Kendra?

She glances subtly up underneath her eyelashes at Leonardo, who's flicking the lighter yet again. He'll admit it no more than she will, but he needs some one. He needs her, because he simply doesn't have anybody else left. She goes back to tracing her knife.

Rip's voice rings out over the ship. She catches only bits of it, but it's enough to finally make her smile. They're about to go on another mission. She's about to have somebody to fight. "It's about damn time," Leonard snarls, echoing her own feelings. Their eyes meet, and she actually smiles for the first time. He grins back, though he teases, "What are you smiling about, assassin?"

"I'm ready, thief. I know you are, too." He nods, stands, and pockets Mick's lighter as she does her own knife. Sara recalls hearing space is lonely. Those people weren't wrong. Space is lonely, but so is life. It helps to have somebody at your side.
