An object at rest stays at rest. An object in motion stays in motion. Then comes an outside force. Two objects at rest aren’t going to encounter one another; they’d simply sit at their fixed points and, if within hearing distance, chat about the weather or wallpaper, if too far away from each other for even sight, they’d pass the time another way. Two objects in motion might collide, but the odds are rare; it is much more probable that they’d pass by each other once, twice, maybe a hundred times, and never know there was another object just beside them. So, if there is any good chance of a collision, the two objects are going to have to be opposites: one at rest, and one in motion.
Occaisonally, the universe follws her rules. One such time, happened like this:
Captain Jack Harkness was the most fixed object in the universe. Ianto Jones was an object in transit. They collided once, as an introduction. The second time was forced, and they parted ways. The third time, the charmed time, they finally connected. The closed, fixed point began to open, and the boy who kept jumping at shadows slowed; it became love.
