So today, I decided to wear my Yankees cap to my internship. (For those of you who might not understand why this is significant, let me state that my internship is at Harvard, which as some of you may know is located in a region known as Cambridge within the state called Massachusetts, where there is a rival to the Yankees known as the Red Sox.) Surprisingly, not only did I survive, but the only negative comment I got was from a fellow intern who said he was "ashamed" to be seen around me. I even got a "Go Yankees!" from a passer-by, and believe it or not, it did not occur in the same sentence as "to Hell" or "screw yourselves" or something along those lines. Granted, this doesn't mean that everyone I met was on my side - in fact, I'd guess that most people who were unresponsive to me either didn't care at all or were thinking things that are typically deemed improper to say in civilized society.
Not only that, but as I was leaving for the day, I met someone who was wearing a T-shirt reading "Harvard: The Michigan of the East". I also happen to have this T-shirt, so of course I had to comment to him about it. Turns out he has a brother or something who goes to Michigan, and bought him that shirt. I just found it interesting that he chose to wear it while working for Harvard.
So all in all, I guess it's not a good day for pro-Harvard apparel. And my act of defiance seems to have paid off, seeing as how the Yankees beat the Red Sox today, in Boston!
