Blurb Bk 1: Damen is a warrior hero to his people, and the rightful heir to the throne of Akielos, but when his half brother seizes power, Damen is captured, stripped of his identity, and sent to serve the prince of an enemy nation as a pleasure slave.
Beautiful, manipulative and deadly, his new master Prince Laurent epitomizes the worst of the court at Vere. But in the lethal political web of the Veretian court,
nothing is as it seems, and when Damen finds himself caught up in a play for the throne, he must work together with Laurent to survive and save his country.
For Damen, there is just one rule: never, ever reveal his true identity. Because the one man Damen needs is the one man who has more reason to hate him than anyone else . . .
Blurb Bk 2: The second volume in the Captive Prince trilogy.
With their countries on the brink of war, Damen and his new master Prince Laurent must exchange the intrigues of the palace for the sweeping might of the battlefield as they travel to the border to avert a lethal plot.
Forced to hide his identity, Damen finds himself increasingly drawn to the dangerous, charismatic Laurent. But as the fledgling trust between the two men deepens, the truth of secrets from both their pasts is poised to deal them the crowning death blow . . .
Both books in this trilogy were great, I was disappointed to find that I had to wait for the last book... Especially given the end of the second one! S. U. Pacat does a brilliant job of building up the story in these books. Through the course of both of them I loved the way these two main characters slowly come together. You know it's going to happen and sometimes you can almost see it and sometimes you're almost certain it's all going to fall apart.
I think that part of what appealed to me in this work is the fact that there is no clear 'hero', everyone plays the good guy and the bad guy in turn. At least in some way shape or form. The fact that things were clear cut is appealing and much more believable. The characters are well built, fleshed out and wonderfully played so that in the end you're not sure who's saving who or what exactly the outcome will be. That's fun. ;)
If you're looking for a world to fall into and a couple of characters to hate and love, I think you'll enjoy these works. Though the predicted publication date for the third book isn't until some time next year. That being said if you are looking for a book based on sex plot and not plot then this isn't what you want to read. These books do contain some less than consensual scenes--there being slavery involved--but in the end I believe things will work out despite the angst.
