Blurb: Mitch is on a last-ditch drive to save his career with the Scottish Institute of Archaeology. His ex-lover Lewis has stolen his research into the legendary Pictish saints, mystical pre-Celtic statues hidden somewhere on mist-wreathed Dove Island. Now Mitch is tearing out to the coast in the hope of reaching the saints before his treacherous ex can stake a claim.

At Mitch’s side is his devoted assistant, Owen. Owen adores Mitch, but he’s the quiet, loyal type. Despite himself, Mitch is still dazzled by memories of flamboyant Lewis. He’s in danger of destroying his newfound happiness with Owen - and, as the race for the saints intensifies, he’s losing perspective. Will Mitch learn how to appreciate the love of a good man before he plunges himself and Owen too far into the deadly mysteries of Dove Island?

"In Search of Saints", was all that I've come to expect from Harper Fox and more. I did of course wish that there was more to the story but overall I think that this worked well as a short. While things could have been drawn out more, the story its self did not need more.

This is a short, sweet book that boiled down to its essence is about love; love that is good for us, love that is not and quite a bit more. Mitch takes up with Owen on the rebound still hanging on to the glamor of his relationships with Lewis. In the end he must face the fact that not all that glitters is gold and sometimes the best things come in plain packages.

Overall the buildup between the characters is rather obvious but in typical Fox fashion the ending is a little less so. The reader knows what is going to happen but not how it will happen. Thus the insertion of the supernatural into reality at the end adds a little extra thrill. And yet as with many of her other works, this story takes place in a setting that is modern and yet isolated. A place where anything feels possible.
