Things learned from the commentary track for Fiddler on the Roof:
  1. Norman Jewison: goy (his term)
  2. "In Eastern Europe they grow pumpkins amongst the corn"
  3. The entire film is shot through a piece of silk or nylon stocking (1:40). Seriously! Jewison was discussing how to get the right look for the film with the cinematographer (who said to put something between the lens and the film to diffuse it) when a secretary with great legs walked by. So they asked her to "donate" her stocking. For aesthetic reasons. "Some of these cinematographers in England... they're very eccentric." It seems he had been making comments about this for years, but people thought he was joking. Apparently on the blu-ray transfer you can actually see the knit pattern in a few shots.
