October Prompts!

It's time for October Prompts!! This will be a month-long ficfest!! For each day, with the exception of the 12-14 (for artist claims on Major Bigbang), there will be three prompts: a fic prompt, a drabble prompt and a first line prompt. Take them any way you want! Prompts aren't limited to fics - use them any way you want. We'll post the entire list up front and then individual prompts by day.



October 1:
This-Day-In-History: 1968 - Night of the Living Dead premieres in Pittsburgh PA.
Fic Prompt: Lorne’s lover becomes a zombie, for real, for play - you decide.
100-word Drabble Prompt: Braaaaaaaaainsssssssssss!
First-Line-Prompt: “I always wanted to be a Zombie for Halloween.”

October 2:
This-Day-In-History: 1969 - NBC-TV cancels Star Trek.
Fic Prompt: Write a AU fic where Lorne and his lover deal with the aftermath of the cancelled Atlantis Expedition.
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: Where No Man Has Gone Before
First-Line-Prompt: “If you don’t mind, I’d like to borrow your bodies for a few hours.” (DEEP SPACE NINE: FACETS)

October 3:
This-Day-In-History: 1863 - US President Lincoln declared the last Thursday of Nov would be recognized as Thanksgiving Day.
Fic Prompt: Write a fic where Lorne is taken home by his lover for a holiday with the In-Laws.
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: Feast
First-Line-Prompt: “That wasn't what I thought you meant by ‘rump roast’.”

October 4:
This-Day-In-History: 1957 - The Soviet Union inaugurates the "Space Age" with its launch of Sputnik, the world's first artificial satellite.
Fic Prompt: Write a fic about Lorne and his lover’s first time in space.
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: Sputnik
First-Line-Prompt: “Tonight’s my last night on Earth for a while - maybe years.”

October 5:
This-Day-In-History: 1919 - Enzo Ferrari debuts in his first race. He would later found an independent auto company and produce Ferrari Sports Cars.
Fic Prompt: Lorne, his lover, and a fast mode of transportation.
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: Speed
First-Line-Prompt: “I have to warn you, I've heard relationships based on intense experiences never work.” SPEED

October 6:
This-Day-In-History: 1863 - The first Turkish Bath was opened in Brooklyn, New York by Dr Charles Shepard (not making this one up!!).
Fic Prompt: Lorne and his lover take a hot bath - willingly or not. Be creative, think hot springs on a new planet, large cooking pots, etc. Extra points if you get John Sheppard into the fic!!

First-Line-Prompt: “Wash outside the tub, soak inside!”

October 7:
This-Day-In-History: 1977 - David Bowie’s second album, SPACE ODDITY is released.
Fic Prompt: “God knows I’m Good”

First-Line-Prompt: “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.” NATURE BOY by David Bowie

October 8:
This-Day-In-History: 1957 - Jerry Lee Lewis records “Great Balls of Fire”.
Fic Prompt: You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: Too much love drives a man insane
First-Line-Prompt: “I want to love you like a lover should…” (Jerry Lee Lewis)

October 9:
This-Day-In-History: 1876 - Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Watson made their longest telephone call to date at a distance of two miles.
Fic Prompt: Lorne and his lover deal with their long distance love affair by using taped messages to each other.
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: “Call me, maybe…”
First-Line-Prompt: “The number on the matchbook was old and faded.” (OPERATOR by Jim Croce)

October 10:
This-Day-In-History: 1886 - The tuxedo dinner jacket made its US debut in New York City.
Fic Prompt: Lorne dons a tux for the first time because his lover asked him to (fill in your reason and make it a fic!!)
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: Bond. James Bond.
First-Line-Prompt: “I’d take off my shirt, too, but it’s inappropriate in a tuxedo.” (THE WEST WING, Charlie Young)

October 11:
This-Day-In-History: 1948 - Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates is born
Fic Prompt: “Smoking guns, hot to the touch, would cool down if we didn't use them so much.” Take this one somewhere unusual - Lorne and his lover… (OUT OF TOUCH, by Daryl Hall and John Oates)
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: Maneater (MANEATER, by Allen, Hall, and Oates)
First-Line-Prompt: “One on one, I want to play that game tonight…” (ONE ON ONE, by Daryl Hall)

October 12 - 14
Taking a break from the October Prompts for the Major BigBang Artist claims!! We’ll be back on the 15th (or earlier if they wrap up fast ;).

October 15:
This-Day-In-History: 1863 - The Confederate submarine H L Hunley sinks in Charleston Harbor.
Fic Prompt: Lorne explains “submarine races” to his lover. Alternately, Lorne and his lover are stuck underwater in a jumper with nothing to do.
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: Civil War
First-Line-Prompt: “What, exactly, are submarine races?”

October 16:
This-Day-In-History: 1939 - Sugar rationing begins in the Netherlands.
Fic Prompt: What’s the one thing you can’t live without? Incorporate it into a fic about Lorne and his lover and rationing supplies on Atlantis.
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: Bread or Bred - you pick.
First-Line-Prompt: “I’m not saying you can’t have it, I just don’t know if I can do it…”

October 17:
This-Day-In-History: 1888 - Thomas Edison files a patent for the Optical Phonograph, also known as the Kinetoscope, the first prototype of which would not appear until 1891.
Fic Prompt: Lorne’s lover talks him into filming their lovemaking. What happens next?
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: Photographs
First-Line-Prompt: “This is so much better than the video camera I had when I was at school…”

October 18:
This-Day-In-History: 1989 - the space shuttle Atlantis was launched on a mission that included the deployment of the Galileo space probe.
Fic Prompt: This one is a free-for-all. Pair Lorne with anything scientific.
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: Galileo or Probe. Take your pick.
First-Line-Prompt: “And then you had to bring up reincarnation…”(GALILEO, by Emily Saliers)

October 19:
This-Day-In-History: 1979 - Prince releases his second album titled “Prince”
Fic Prompt: Write a fic with the title of one of the songs from the album Prince
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: “Sexy Dancer”
First-Line-Prompt: choose a line from any lyric from the Prince album

October 20:
This-Day-In-History: 1979 - Bob Dylan appears on Saturday Night Live
Fic Prompt: Write a fic based on the title of a Bob Dylan song. Bonus if you write Lorne/Sheppard using a Johnny Cash song covered by Dylan.
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: Like a rolling stone

October 21:

October 22:
This-Day-In-History: 2008 - The iTunes Music Store reached 200 million applications downloaded.
Fic Prompt: Lorne likes to play games…write a fic about it.

October 23:
This-Day-In-History: 1963 - Neil Simon’s “Barefoot in the Park” premieres in New York City
Fic Prompt: Lorne has a foot fetish.
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: Footsie
First-Line-Prompt: “Be sure you put your feet in the right place…”

October 24:
This-Day-In-History: 2011 - The Northern Lights become visible over much of North America due to a coronal mass ejection {couldn't resist folks :>) }
Fic Prompt: Lorne and his lover like to sit under the stars and watch the lights.
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: Mass Ejection
First-Line-Prompt: “His body felt like it was part of a mass eruption, arcing and spiraling around a single point…”

October 25:
This-Day-In-History: 1881 - The infamous Shootout at the O.K. Corral
Fic Prompt: Lorne has a thing for cowboys. What lengths will his lover go to to make it a memorable night…
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: Point blank
First-Line-Prompt: This time you’re getting a last line prompt. Make the last line in your fic “Never miss a good chance to shut up.” (Will Rogers)

October 26:
This-Day-In-History: 1986 - “Into the Light” closes at the Neil Simon Theater after 6 performances.
Fic Prompt: Do everything in sixes today. Write a series of six drabbles, write about six encounters Lorne has or six different lovers he’s had, describe six photographs Lorne keeps or write a fic with only six sentences with 6 words in each line.
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: the number 6.
First-Line-Prompt: “You've got SIX of those?!?!?!”

October 27:
This-Day-In-History: 1523 - English troops occupy Limerick Ireland.
Fic Prompt: Write a limerick.

October 28:
This-Day-In-History: 1951 - Nuclear test performed at Nevada Test Site.
Fic Prompt: Lorne must have spent some time at Area 51. There had to have been scientists and Airmen/Marines from the Stargate project stationed there too, right? Tell us about at least one of them that found Lorne as irresistible as we do…

October 29:

Fic Prompt: Write a fic about discrimination, about being misunderstood, and about finding someone who gets you.

First-Line-Prompt: “I had not idea you were into (fill it in and write about it!!)”

October 30:
This-Day-In-History: 1790 and on - Mischief Night also known as Devil’s Night, Cabbage Night and GATE Night! An annual tradition in part of the UK, Ireland, US & Canada in which people play pranks and make merry in their neighborhoods.
Fic Prompt: Pranks abound on Atlantis the night before Halloween. Lorne (or is it his lover??) gets in on them.
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: Mischief
First-Line-Prompt: “Let me guess…it’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown?” Lorne asked skeptically.

October 31:
This-Day-In-History: HALLOWEEN!!
Fic Prompt: Everybody likes to dress up on Halloween…
100-Word-Drabble-Prompt: Trick-Or-Treat
First-Line-Prompt: Boo!
