I've written more today than in the past few months... oi oi.
Narwhals lost at sea, and never seen again. Read it and give the crossover a guess.
Lost at Sea on FF.net Another Crossover Day fic. A little obscure, maybe? Probably not. They seem so obvious to me when I'm writing them, but if I make it too vague no-one will get it at all…
Lost at Sea
When his feet hit dry land, he started running. Up and away from the white sands and the white bodies pressed gasping against his, away from the rolling crash of the breakers. He had to twist his head slightly to see where he was going- he'd lost an eye when he was driven in, one of the only ones who fought, and fought hard, against their nightmare shepherd. He was strong, he could have perhaps escaped, but he saw his brave mate defeated, slashed across the face, driven crying in outrage into the surf.
They'd been trapped together, but so far apart, for what felt like eternity, rushing in a futile burst of foam to the land only to be swept again out to sea. He could see, with his missing eye, the twilight man who watched them from his balcony so far above, the cruel engineer of their torment, the one who seemed to be comforted by their ceaseless suffering. The old tyrant had fallen, in the end, into the very waves he'd so long used as a prison, and been pulled by murky sea-fingers to the depths.
His brothers rushed past him, frantic and joyful, as he stopped to wait. The fiery tormentor was still steaming vaguely as he paddled away into the horizon, and walking dazed up the beach was the most beautiful creature he'd ever seen. No wicked sea-change had been wrought upon his pearl coat, his delicate twisting ivory spire. Only the scar across his face, that marked him a fighter, a beautiful badge of courage, was different from when they'd been driven down, so long ago. Together, finally, at last, they leapt out into the world, returning to the blazing leaves of home.
