Keep Caltrans Away From Our Old-growth Redwoods In 2012 the Center for Biological Diversity helped smack down a misguided Caltrans highway-widening proposal that would have damaged the ancient redwood grove at Richardson Grove State Park. The plan sought to widen Highway 101 and slice through the root systems of a grove of ancient trees in the state park -- all to increase access for oversized commercial trucks in rural Humboldt County.
But Caltrans just can't stomach the defeat. Even after a sternly worded remand from a federal court that determined the agency had been "arbitrary and capricious," Caltrans has come back with another inadequate analysis of the Richardson Grove project. It vows to begin construction in mid-2014. (ed. note:
Oh, hell no.)
Please take action before Oct. 21 and tell Caltrans to protect the irreplaceable treasures of Richardson Grove State Park.
