If I never read the words "the other man" instead of a character's name in a fanfic again it will be too soon. Just repeat the damn names. With the name, I see the person. With "the other man" I see the words the.other.man, and have to stop and think about it. Clunky ( Read more... )

seriously. if i have the energy i'm just going to WRITE a fic that's all 'the englishman, the scot, the brunette, the taller man, the big-nosed man, the guitar-player" and let bad_fic make of it what it will.

perfectly lovely fics RUINED by 'but i didn't want to use their names too often'.

those are their NAMES. the next best thing to being there.
