I went to my first pub quiz night last night.
Like raffles, this country is obsessed with pub quizzes with topics ranging from current events, literature, pop music, sports and what have you. I was convinced I wouldn't know any of the questions and would look like a stupid American.
I did my country proud. I was the only person on my team who could answer any of the literature questions, including "who wrote Tess of the D'Urbervilles" (Come on, you fucking ignorant Brits!). I had most of the pop music questions in the bag including the one about Britney's new perfume, and the one I am most proud of was the question "What film used Huey Lewis's 'Power of Love' as a featured theme song". (Karina, I expect an answer)
My team won first place and got a case of beer to split between four people. And I thought my love of trivia would never take me any where.
Smug fucking Brits. USA! USA! USA!! This makes up for the fact that I missed the Oscars. I want to hear details of y'all's parties.
