Popular vote... tepofarkas November 4 2004, 06:34:53 UTC
I'm not being partisan here, just wanted to clarify some facts.

Popular vote is BAD. it relies on simple majority to determine issues that are more complex than a simple majority should have influence over. For example, if the issue of apartheid should come up in the United States, white people could easily have a simpe majority (anything over 50%) over minorities (hence the 'minor' part) and the issue would pass. You can see why this would not be good.

The electoral college was established in the spirit of balance and proper representation for the communities represented within the states. In other words, we cast a vote for what we think, the electoral representatives examine the vte, then cast their electoral vote according to what the people want. Unfortunately, thos electoral representatives are often too beholden (money and influence) by special interest and lobbying groups and I feel that undue influence by powerful and well-funded groups is being execised constantly in government.

We, as the public, aren't being represented in government any longer. It's the people who yell the loudest, give the most cash, and have full-time groups to whiper in legislator's ears.

Also, I think GWB got the popular vote anyway.

Alright I'm done now. I talk too much sometimes.

yeah, Bush got the popular vote by more then 3 million. So either way, he won. I dont' think he's a homophobic either. I'm not homophobic either; I have gay friends, too. I'm just thinking that he wants to make sure our world doesn't get too secular. I mean, if we legalize same sex marriages, how long before other stuff is asked to be legalized? Like, more than one spouse? 4 people married to each other? sibling marriages? How far will it go if we keep on legalizing it? Just a thought
