i'm in boston!

okay. still tired but managed to wake up at 10am this morning! very proud. looked out the window and saw it SNOWING. it was mesmerising. I must have just sat on my bed looking at the snow fall, go sideways and even at one point fall UPWARDS, for at least 10 mins.

been walking around all day exploring nearby. the train system is excellent here and there are shops everywhere you turn. apparently boston has the highest ratio of Dunkin’ Donuts stores to people anywhere in the world. I found this morsel of information out from the Brazilian student - Felipe - who is also staying at the Brigham Guest House with me. He is doing 4 weeks of plastic surgery at Beth Israel Deaconness Hospital (I hope I got that right).

new york to boston was a joke and a half. the queue for the security check was absolutely RIDICULOUS. in the chaos met a dude named Joe who was a Bostonian travelling back to boston on the same flight. he kindly helped my find my way in the chaos (although he didn’t really know what he was doing either). so I followed him about for a while until we were told to go to the other terminal. that was my first experience of below-zero temperatures! btw of interest might be the fact that JFK airport in NY has it’s own train system. that’s right. the air train. it transports people from TERMINAL to TERMINAL. that boggles my mind.

flight was meant to leave at 4:45pm but we ended up boarding at 6:45. then we were told the delays were due to weather. boston was snowing and turning planes back. we had to wait in the plane until we got clearance to land in boston. so we waited til 8:10 before we got clearance to land. there were 10-12 planes backed up all trying to get to boston so we had to wait in a queue for take-off which eventually happened around 9pm. got to boston at 9:45. baggage claim took another 20 mins and taxi to the guest house took 15mins. met the guest house owner, Marie, who is an absolutely lovely if circumstantial/tangential little old lady, who lives on the ground floor. I live on the 3rd floor. by the time I got up to the 3rd floor, lugging my massive suitcase I was beyond exhausted. and then I unpacked. when I got to sleep it was past midnight. urgh. but nevermind! I made it! all by myself! and now tomorrow I start at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. ah crap gotta read up stuff. but am too tired. gotta get dinner as well.

lol - spent 20 mins today trying to get hot water out of the shower. then tried the other tap and got hot water almost immediately. turns out the ‘h’ was on the WRONG TAP. clue: one of the taps was missing its label. I’m thinking the previous occupant of the room did it as a joke. ah well. I’ll let Marie know.

ohkay! I think I’m gonna get Felipe off the phone and grab some dinner. sun set before 5pm today and I’m tired enough it feels like 11pm even though it’s not yet 6pm. catchas all soon!
