video post † 005 † 10-14-10

[Youji's a little careless right now. He only meant to check the contacts list for the tenth time, but his motor skills have been compromised by a few drinks. Video opens on a profile shot and tilted a bit to the side; he's thrown his arm across the top of the couch with the device still in his hand ( Read more... )

Whatever you say, Kudou. Now budge over. insorrow October 15 2010, 07:40:35 UTC
[Nothing out the ordinary? Well, that covers a lot of sins - a Hell of an awful lot. He's still in Somarium, right? Right, this is his apartment in Somni and this thing in his hand is a Dreamberry and that's Youji and his weird haircut and somewhere out there he thinks he's got a girlfriend--

[Probably shouldn't mention that last bit. He probably owes Aya a phone call.]

That ain't exactly reassuring.

[Well, Youji, Ken would be the first person to agree with you there. He really doesn't want to be awake right now, but he's had enough sleep to last him for weeks.

[He wanders over to the couch, kicking off the slipper on the way because seriously just what is the point of that, and collapses down onto it, slumping back against the cushions. Seriously, he is starving. When the Hell did he last eat? He has a horrible feeling he was in a damn sleep coma, again - he hasn't checked the date yet, but the sluggisnness and the cramps, the strange lightheaded feeling and the desire to eat half the contents of the refrigerator are dead giveaways even without checking the calendar. Great, how long has he lost this time?]

I'll pass, thanks. What day is it anyway?

He says stop making fun of his haircut in your head, Ken. :O slantedcross October 15 2010, 09:54:04 UTC
[Youji raises a glass to the first statement. Welcome to real life, Ken, this is how it tends to go.

For the second, he snags his Dreamberry again and checks.]

Thursday or thereabouts. I haven't been up twenty-four hours, myself.

Is that a little more reassuring for you?

Only if Youji stops making fun of everything else. Out loud. So, no. insorrow October 15 2010, 17:26:17 UTC
[Thanks, he knows that. Or thinks he does.

[Ken sighs, letting his head drop back against the couch cushions, hair falling from his eyes and gaze fixed, for a moment, on an unremarkable bit of the ceiling. What sucks the most about sleep comas is the bit where, once you've finally surfaced, all you really want to do is go back to sleep. What the Hell, body?]

You too, huh?

[Have a frown, Youji, even if he's frowning at the ceiling as much as he is at you. Ken's not exasperated so much as he is just plain bewildered. All he's really trying to do is understand and maybe there's nothing to understand - correlation is not causation after all, though Ken wouldn't necessarily have phrased it quite as neatly as all that - but he's trying all the same. He's only human, he sees patterns where perhaps there aren't any and who cares that nobody ever told him reality had to make sense?]

What the Hell's the deal here? Every time you go, I go...

[He lifts his head again, looks right at Youji.]

Thursday the what?

It'd be OOC for Youji to stop ;_; I can't do thaaaat. slantedcross October 17 2010, 05:49:21 UTC
[Checks again. Memory retention not strong at present.]

Fourteenth. Something like.

[And he laughs, quietly. Not really happily, but he's trying to be himself.]

You know how dull life is without me, clearly.

Then Ken'll just have to keep on keeping on, I'm afraid. Could be worse, at least you're not Ran. insorrow October 17 2010, 05:57:49 UTC
Fourteenth...

[Ken says it thoughtfully, then exhales wearily. He'd shake his head in disgust if that didn't mean sitting up straight... he settles for closing his eyes and running a hand through his bangs.]

About ten days, then. Dammit, can't these things find someone else to pick on?

[Don't answer that. Ken would rather Youji answered this instead.]

Who were you talking to?

'tis a vicious, endless cycle--but yeah, it's not like Youji'll remember you guys at all later! slantedcross October 17 2010, 07:12:45 UTC
No one in particular. Damn thing turned on without me noticing.

[To backtrack or not to backtrack? ...will probably backtrack. Youji is just a sour type like that.]

That's what I keep telling you. You make it far too easy.

Why didn't you just turn it off? 's what I'd have done.

[And who cares if that's one of the reasons everyone thinks he's hopeless? Not Ken.

[The tease doesn't surprise Ken in the slightest. Annoy him? Oh Hell yeah. Surprise him, not really. So, how to deal with it this time? Well, there is getting angry, and there is utterly ignoring it in favor of carrying on talking about what he was trying to talk about, dammit: being, in short, horribly single-minded. Ken's decided he's going to be taking the second route this time, though that doesn't mean Youji's getting away without a that's-not-what-I-meant-and-you-know-it-you-jerk frown.]

... and it didn't sound like nothing from where I was, man. You gonna tell me what's up or should I just go watch it myself?

[That's a right interesting question. It puts Youji's back to the wall, because there is no win here; the question is how much face is he willing to lose? Letting Ken just watch for himself would make Youji look like petulant, while telling him forces Youji to lose some of that lofty unflappability he maintains.

[Ultimately, however--he corrects himself; he might lose more face with the second option, but forcing Ken to watch for himself causes him to lose respectability as an adult, doesn't it? In front of a nineteen-year-old. Charming.]

Somehow, I think just sitting here like an idiot for the last three minutes, then fade to black, looks worse.

[Quit stalling.]

You remember that damn auction, don't you?

[So help me you had better.]

Iris isn't on the contacts list anymore.

[... oh, yeah. That auction. Ken couldn't very well forget that could he and the least said about quite why he remembered it so damn clearly six months after the fact - so clearly, in fact, that just the thought has him flushing awkwardly and looking away - the better...

[But why the Hell would Youji be bringing that up now?]

insorrow October 19 2010, 01:25:20 UTC
[Oh. That would be why.]

Yeah, I know the one.

[Ken looks up again, and though he's probably still blushing, the look on his face softens from aggrieved humiliation to one of simple concern. Iris. Just how close Youji had actually been to the young woman was anyone's guess, the guy really could be pretty discreet about his lady friends when he wanted to be, but it was never easy to lose a friend, was it? Even when it meant that they'd gone back where they belonged, that didn't make it any easier on the people they'd left behind - the people they'd forgotten.

[He wonders if he should put his hand on Youji's shoulder, but decides not to. Wonders if he should offer Youji a coffee, but a coffee probably wouldn't help, and going by the thickness in the blond's voice he'd already helped himself to something stronger. Why does he never know what to say about stuff like this?]

Damn. I'm sorry, man. At least she's - I mean I know it ain't much help but she's at least back where she should be now, right?

[Right. About the bit where knowing that isn't much use, too.]

That's occurred to me, yes.

[Not that Youji would have any better idea as to what to say here. Or do, really. Words are empty things, even when you can pretty them up somewhat. It's occurred to him that he might be overreacting, which gives him cause to wonder if all of the disappointment really relates to Iris. She--doesn't deserve the insult of being used as a springboard for the rest of Youji's issues to come out, and that he'd let himself sink into that...]

If that's the last of your questions...
