I need to start thinking of which movie I'm going to write about for my history paper. Technically, it's not due until the beginning of April but I always get into these weird situations where I mean to do everything early but somehow I'm still rushing around last minute scrambling to get it done. My history professor has already pulled out the movie sign up sheet and I want to get something good before it's capped. The war movies will probably be popular and there's probably going to be a small crowd going after Titanic-I dunno, what's a good movie set during the 1900's in America or involved Americans?
I haven't actually seen a lot of the Vietnam war movies that are so popular. And today as we were reading "The Things They Carry" in class, I actually realized that I don't know tons about that war and that surprised me a bit, I feel like I should. I'm one of the many that came from that war. I know the little details that pertain directly to my family-my grandmother sold stuff on the black market to take care of her family, my granddad decided to enlist and did a lot of missions where they were required to parachute down and that he had a dog that started off as a runt but really grew and was very protective of my uncle. My mom actually has a lot of poems written about Vietnam and all her published poems are the ones set there.
I just think it's funny how those writerly types are always harping on about their past ;) Like at that Asian poetry event, the Japanese poets read quite a few poems about their families' experiences in the interment camps, and these were younger people, and there was a fair amount of stuff written about their grandparent's experience immigrating here. It's given me some ideas actually for the short story we're suppose to write for class. Still a little worried over it since I'm not much of a short story writer but I feel a little more solid at least having some kind of idea I want to explore.
That ending of Lost was so messed up. Sorry Charlie but you're gonna die. How can they do us like that. Sure, Lost is always full of some new surprise or other but once you get over your initial shock, it's cool, but I didn't see that one coming. Desmond gets psychic powers only to predict Charlie's death. Not my Charlie, the island doesn't demand his sacrifice. I'm not sure what that third big mystery of Lost is though, one's Jacks tats, the other is the children, but what's the other big one? There's a lot of little things but I don't think any of them are it.
Anyway I really ought to review my notes for my history test tomorrow before I call it a night. I'm still trying to get the hang of this going to bed early thing. I don't nap nearly as often as I did last semester despite the increased course load and longer hours but it's not as if I'm better rested. I'll be tired but still end up going to bed at two in the morning. I'm blaming the computer.
I feel the need to watch In the Mood for Love again and Amelie, that's such a cute movie.
