Bout time I updated again

So its been a couple of weeks now, so I thought it was about time I posted. But cause it has been a couple of weeks, it means that there is heaps I may end up saying (altho I might get lazy and not), so I'll cut it all to save you all from epic long friends pages. :P

Well I guess first things first, I did end up getting a new phone. Its so nice and shiny and does such wonderful things. Why did I wait so long? 256 meg memory card, 2 meg camera, bluetooth, loads of cool features. My old Nokia 6610 was a piece of poo compared. So now I have a Sony Ericsson V630i

Installing the software at home was a bit of a nightmare. Yet another software bundle that needs a C drive to exist before it will install. But for one reason or another, I have no C drive. Windows is on F. But if I put a thumb drive in, it detects as C so I finally got it installed. It didn't even touch the thumb drive either, just needed a C to exist. /me shrugs

Getting this has given me a chance to play around a bit with one of the things which I've done heaps of in the last fortnight. Live music. I think I've been to 5 gigs? One of them at our house! :P But I've tried taking heaps of pics and some videos. Didn't try the sound recorder tho which was a bit dumb of me.

Quick side paragraph. The following Monday night we had our volleyball Grand Final. We'd won all 23 games that season. Lost 8 sets total. Grand Final time rocks up and the two Ben's all of a sudden turn into these scary must win at all costs monsters. So we finally lose our first game of the season. 0-3 even. I wasn't surprised at all, I knew people would be to cocky and stuff it up. Ingrates. We didn't deserve to win. anyway, back to the general thread I was on!

First concert was Dresden Dolls. Anyone who pays attention knows how completely over the top excited I was. And I certainly wasn't disappointed. I want to marry Amanda Palmer, or at the very least have freaky animal like sex with her and her drawn on eyebrows. Its not like she has an amazing body, she's not an absolute stunner, her voice is deep, she really isn't THAT feminine in the traditional beauty pageant manner, but I think what I find such a turn on is how passionate she is about her music and the way she puts EVERYTHING into it. And I think she is hot despite what I just said, but who said I was into the traditional beauty pageant type girl!). Watch this, it kinda shows that passion (yay for my first attempt at adding a Youtube video), if you want to see more, hit their site (linked above) and have a look. Also linked from their site is http://www.automaticjoy.com/ which has heaps more live stuff.

I took heaps of pictures, but sadly, they really didn't work that well since I was still trying to get used to the phone. I spent $30 on a CD, $35 on a DVD and $60 for the sheet music companion book (which has a cool front part about the origins of the band and recording of their first album). Took Tegan and iggymaphone along. I knew Rich would love it but really wasn't sure about Tegan. She doesn't really strike me as the live music type of lass, but she really enjoyed it too.

The support act was a bit of a revelation tho. Jason Webley plays accordion. We liked him so much that Rich and I took another mate along to see him at the Grace Emily the following night. Free gig too (sorta, we'll get to that!) which certainly helped. Much smaller spot so we got close, which meant this time my pictures did work! Sadly he is a fan of real audio, so if you have it installed, click on music and then on the album titles and you can have a listen to his tracks. I'd recommend going to Against the Night and listening to tracks 7 and 16. My favourites. Its an interesting sound. He's got an amazing voice, kinda like Tom Waites, and no backing live other than his foot stomping and his guitar or accordion. Unfortunately he is heaps better live than recorded, but the CDs are still great.

After he played he was selling merch and signing things on the pool table so the next band could play, so despite Rich buying all three albums the night before, I followed suit and got them 3 for $40. And he signed all three whereas the night before, Rich only got one signature! Take that! Such a nice guy. Was so genuinely thankful for us spending like that, was great! Rich got his own back tho. He'd done his research and knew there was a 4th album, his first to be exact. so after a little persuasion, Jason was convinced to sell Rich his only copy (there at least) of the album!

I was getting a bit frustrated tho by my phone's crap camera (even tho I didn't want the camera, I wanted a phone. But if you get something like that, you want it to work!). So on the following weekend I snapped a pic in daylight. Of me car. tee hee. And it works a charm, what was I worried about?

So fast forward to last Wednesday night and we had the Karnivool concert. Karnivool are great, not a lot of material yet, but an awesome live show. If you don't know who they are but watch Australian Idol (get off my list! :P), the blonde chick who got punted did Themata by them and none of the judges had any idea who the band was or what the song was. Can you tell what kinda audience its geared at? HA! Anyway, we weren't let down. Another great show. The lead singer is weird. He looks like a rooster and continually pulls weird faces. Was even stranger when he kept looking right at our group. It helped we were all standing on chairs in a second of the crowd where the lights kept falling so he couldn't miss us! He'd look, and just wouldn't break your gaze. A little off putting to be honest, but still cool since he KNEW we were there and he KNEW we were rocking along with him.

Again the camera let me down. I guess I know it sucks in the dark now. but I also took a video as well to see how well it recorded. Sadly it is 3gp format, so you'll need quickplayer, but have a look if you are interested, you'll get an idea about the lead singer watching it: CLICKY. I used the software on the phone to trim the footage too. Its pretty nifty! I'd have recorded the whole song (Themata), but thought "Screw this! I wanna dance too" so stopped and jumped up and down a lot. :P

Before we went to the concert tho we went and looked at a house. Friday we put in the application. It sounds promising but we are STILL waiting to hear. Driving me nuts! Its still listed on their site (so there should be a pic below showing it), but hopefully its because they aren't really property management, so haven't thought to remove it.

Long weekend tho, which would have slowed down the process. Speaking of long weekends, we had a Grand Final BBQ Saturday. Maybe 30 odd people rocked up? Was a great day. Swannies went down, but that's OK. I really didn't care who won or lost. Probably the last party we'll have in that house. So we finished it with flair. A guy who works with Rich plays in a band called Mustafa. They had their first gig planned for Sunday night so they played at our barbie to get a bit more practice in. Was great. But buggered if I know where Alicia's photos are and I can't check their Myspace since its blocked from work!

So obviously Sunday we went to see their gig. Totally packed out, would have been fantastic for them! And they played a great set. Everyone loved it. They fed off us, we fed of them. The amusing thing tho is that the second support act had about 6 people watching, while the band having the CD launch (Fear of Flying) that they were actually there to support, had maybe half Mustafa's crowd! tee hee. Yay for rent-a-crowds!

Anyway, I think I'm kinda over typing, this has only taken me an hour or so to write, so that'll do pig, that'll do.

phone, house, car, entertainment, music, pictures
