I am tired of people going on about how the DSi lacks the GBA and has gimmicky features. For one, I am not even sure they are making new and worthwhile games for GBA, so if you need to play old games, then don't consider buying a new system if you only want the past. Sure you could say you want both, but then why not just keep your old technology and stop ranting about how much you hate new things that don't cater to the lesser percentage of consumers. Nintendo is moving forward. I am sorry to hear you aren't.
Next, the camera's, they are great fun! More than i had expected to have. Though I am sure they were included for the narcissistic facebook/myspace people out there, as well as to be a new form of game play to be implemented. But they are a great and worthy addition to any handheld. I just think it is nice to always have a camera on me, and since I am one of the few that doesn't have one on my cell phone I figure why not have it on my DSi, since I take it everywhere with me. Why is everyone so against extra stuff anyways, use it or not, at least you have the ability to use it, and Nintendo has already proved that the DS built for gaming, not to be a portable-media-do-everything-machine. So you get a gaming handheld with extra features, what's the problem? I suppose you could complain about the price. But when any new console or handheld comes out it usually has a higher price to achieve profit for manufacturing costs, and sure Nintendo doesn't need it, but it does help and if they can sell for that then why not. For what it is, you really do get your money worth, but that is just mine, and 300,000+ others people opinions.
It also has an extremely fun music player, I have spent more time playing with my music than just simply listening to it, and was ore excited when I could just use it as a player solely, though it would never replace my Zune of course. It was just a great additional feature. There is a surprising amount of depth to it, that most on-lookers would easily overlook unless they had hands on time with it.
On top of those features it also has the browser that you can download and the possibility of great downloadable games. Though I am sure if the Wiiware is any indication of the quality then I am not looking forward to much more than one title a month being worth a purchase, maybe more considering the low cost of said content. I am sure there may be future applications added as well to add to the fun of this.
So I have had this device for a week now and I have spent hours just playing with all it's features, let alone the fact there is an extensive library of amazing games available, and with it's greater hardware power there is even greater games on the horizon.
Again the complaints come in about being 'forced' into upgrading to the DSi once the DSi only games are released, but considering this will be a year or more off there isn't really a rational reason to fret.I think 6 years is a great lifespan for a handheld before and upgrade is needed, the GBA only lasted 4 years before the original DS launched. And it's the same thing here, since it will be backwards compatible one generation. Much like the DS supported GBA and the GBA supported GBC and so on.
So stop whining and either buy a DS or keep your DS Lite and enjoy your library of DS and GBA games and let the rest of us enjoy our DSi's. And if you are a third group that have neither. I really suggest time for an upgrade.
