Sigh, I hate my parents' practices sometimes! After the nice weekend, I thought this week would be at least okay, but I was wrong. Yesterday, my sister told me that when she went shopping with Mom, all Mom did was gripe and nag about me and my shortcomings ;_;. Mom made no mention of anything or any ill feelings she had toward me earlier or later in the day, so I had no idea. Both my sister and I always knew our parents would groan, gripe, and criticize about us behind our backs, but hearing what Mom said from my sister really hurt 8(. I've been keeping my sister apprised of what Mom and Dad have said about her as well, so she knows the feeling all to well too --;. The worst part is that, in front of either of us, other than the occasional nags, Mom and Dad would put on this fake cheery helpful and concerned attitude. Mind you, it wasn't always like that. When we were growing up, Mom and Dad were always very frank with both of us, and all of us would argue to who knows when sometimes, always with no resolution at the end. Now, ever since they found out about my depression, business personnel problems, and my sister's undergraduate problems, my parents seem to be walking on eggshells near either of us =/ with very fake gestures of, "I love you," or, "Thank you." My sister and I feel those gestures are less than genuine since neither of our parents ever did any of that 'touchy feely' stuff when we were growing up. So when they do it now all of a sudden, it just doesn't feel real, and it truly isn't. It's sort of like how our parents treat their own siblings as well =/ (and still do), but I never thought they would treat us like that too.
Well, ever since I heard it directly from my sister, I'm not sure if I can look at Mom the same anymore --;, knowing that she feels differently about me than how she treats me. The worst part is that I can't confront Mom about this since she would know that my sister told me and thus would never confide in her again as well. I haven't felt this depressed in a long while, and I still don't like it! What am I supposed to do ;/?
I did have a nice weekend though. I got tons of dubbing done, although much of it didn't pass the check through X(. On Saturday, after stalking
Room & Board's Outlet store for a bed frame and ottoman, which we still couldn't find, my sister and I went to the annual
Uptown Art Fair, the largest art fair in the Twin Cities, I think =/. I first went to the Uptown Art Fair some umpteen years ago with Kris, and I've periodically gone back a few times since then. Back then, the Fair was HUGE @-@, covering 10+ city blocks with artists from across the country in all sorts of media from painting, ceramics, drawings, photography, jewelry, wood sculptures and crafts, clothes, moving sculptures, metal, etc.. It was a marvel to behold back then. It still is quite a marvel to see, but it has shrunk to half the size O~O, and 1/3 of the blocks were now filled with food vendors --;! Out of all the years I've been going to the Uptown Art Fair, I've only bought one piece of art: an etched reproduction hand-colored drawing by John Bigelow. The drawing is of a popcorn (with adorable little eyes ^^;) looking at an unpopped popcorn kernel. The caption on the drawing reads, "Waiting for a friend to arrive." I had saw the little sketch reproduction when I first went to the Fair with Kris, but I decided to pass on it at the time. I later regretted my decision, and I went back to the Fair the following year to buy it. Fortunately, since it was a reproduction, it was only $25.00. Most things at the Fair are $25.00+ though, with originals priced in the $800.00 - $2000.00+ range o-O, so usually, I don't buy anything. I do try to go all the way around to see everything though 8D and go, "Oooo! Ahhh!"
This year's trend for 'cheap' Art Fair souvenir were handmade tiny book necklaces, selling for $20.00 - $25.00 by several different artists at each of their booths. A wonderfully decorative block box 8" x 8" painting caught my sister's eye though, but it cost $225.00, GLEEP X(! If they were cheaper, my sister would have wanted more than one. The biggest profit makers at the Fair are the food vendors =P, and this year was no exception. Neither my sister or I bought any art, but we spent $28.05 in food and parking. Let's see. Event Fair parking cost $8.00. A freshly battered and fried corndog for me cost $3.00. A large 16 oz. Bob's ROB'S (as in highway robbery!) Lemonade cost $6.50. 2 roasted fresh corn-on-the-cob dipped in butter cost $6.00. Finally, a large sorbet freeze for me from
Haagen Dazs cost $4.55. It was hot, and I was the living waterfall of sweat again, as usual, so I needed to replenish myself =b! Everything was delicious, of course, but costly --;! Gee, my stomach and wallet just can't wait for the
MN State Fair to roll around too XP!
