EWWWWWWWWWW X6! It's been raining for the past 2 days here, so the worms are popping out of the ground as usual making everything stink like rotting fresh meat. Out of curiosity, I Googled
why worms do come out when it rains only to die later when the Sun comes out, and I found I shouldn't have looked.
Wormologist Richard Wahl of Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania writes: "Worms breed when it rains. They come out of the ground to find each other and to lie side by side in a mating posture, a difficult thing to do in the confines of their burrows. [And we complain about the back of a Ford!] The only time earthworms can safely come to the surface to breed is when the ground is thoroughly soaked."
In other words, I'm smelling a worm ORGY outside in addition to the dead meat! And I thought the boxelder bug orgies in the fall were bad with 2 bugs just 'doing it' right in front of me sometimes (for me to smush) and females laying eggs bright red eggs all over the outside of our house!
